whether Ginka was being neutral or not, in simply 'describing' the psychological environment she thought might have existed she forgot a few very important things (aside from the polarizing freudian quantifications...not a big fan of the dude myself)...
she forgot that people aren't lab rats in a study environment. were not a collective of id's reflexively responding to urges deep within that can only be satisfied in the blessed neutral environment that is the internet. We are real people of flesh and blood who are impacted and affected by these issues.
And i disagree totally with her idea that what people 'truely' believe comes out...what they PERCIEVE to see, or what they perhaps 'think' without ramifications may slip out, but the idea of social conformity can't be separated from the entirety of interpersonal communication...the whole IDEA of communication is 2 people expressing an idea or concept to each other. its a continual, dual-interactive process that involves communication between the 2 people, their responses, and how they change there communication based on these responses.
there's an accountability to the other person in this process that is absent in internet interactions. this accountability is critical to the normal growth and expression of a person. Without it, were building a sociopathic enviroment...not a 'safe haven' for peeps to express themselves.
Without getting into a huge argument on social perceptions or social behaviors, basically she made it sound like WoW is a sterile controlled envoronment, and were all lab rats without any real definition as an entity other then her clinical observations. :P on that. im not a clinical lab rat, and those silly peeps who think WoW is a play field where they can divulge in obscene practices affect ME. And most of them wouldn't do those things to my face. its not about honesty, its about accountability...period. Or lack thereof.
Id say her comments were thought provoking at best, not really insightful. it was a psychobabblic interpretation of her own thoughts on the subject. And to top it off, she threw in some of the most abused slang terms in the psycho-political realm. Just because she throws in a few psychological terms doesn't justify an ignorant judgment of the personalities and perceptions of everyone on WoW.
