New Headless Horseman loot shows up on the PTR
As we mentioned the other day, The Hallow's End event is now live for testing on the 2.4.3 PTR. As seems to be the general case, Kisirani's world event team hasn't been resting on their laurels, but has been relatively steadily upgrading and fleshing out holidays as they come up. Hallow's End looks to be the latest holiday to get a change or two in the form of some new Headless Horseman loot, discovered by MMO-Champion.
A new Sword called The Horseman's Blade looks to take the center stage for the new loot. It should be pretty good for a lot of Rogues and Warriors, with 2.70 speed, 308 top damage, and 87.6 DPS, as well as a few stats. The most intriguing part, however, is that it has a use ability that will summon Pumpkin Soldiers to fight for you every 10 minutes. Heck, if you have the helmet from last year, the sword, and one of the new mounts, you can practically take the place of the Horseman, it looks like!
There also looks to be some new mounts this year as well. Instead of Brooms, it looks like the Horseman may be dropping the whole Horse. You can get both an "Unruly" ground steed and a full-fledged flying steed. The horse itself looks like a heavily armored black horse with hooves of green fel flame like those of the Warlock Dreadsteed.
There may be more loot yet to come, but of course, as this is test, none of it may make it live either. Still, it's nice to see the possibility of more fun and variety for those of us who think we've seen it all at the holidays. We'll keep an eye out for any more Hallow's End changes, and let you know what's happening.

Looks cool, but again, looks like the loot is very Warrior/Melee-centric.

Just like the loot from Ahune was very caster-centric.

What's the difference.
They'll probably end up making him just as hard as the midsummer guy.
Having to assemble a group that has way better gear than what he drops.
The headless horseman of last year was right on par. You could go in with blues and still beat the fight. The loot was epic, but no where near being a true epic quality.
Either way, it felt really good getting one of those pieces of gear.
With the midsummer boss, I'd really love to see how many people were actually running that. I never seen people on my server looking for groups at all. The loot for people required was sad. But if you remember the headless horseman event, the trade/lfg channel was spammed all day long with people looking for a group.

All but confirms post-October 31st WotLK release with level 70 equipment. Le sigh.

Not necessarily. Yes, it being tested on the PTR, but remember the Beta Servers are different and it looks like to me they are getting the main testing out of the way before they get swamped with WOLK beta testing. My call is it will release at Blizcon.

Release before the end of the year is VERY optimistic, I don't expect to see it till around 02/09

He's saying that the loot would be level 80 if WotLK were already released when the even happens.
The blade would be a downgrade from northrend greens and no one would do the Horseman event. Therefore, WotLK release date is after Halloween.

"He's saying that the loot would be level 80 if WotLK were already released when the even happens."
How so? It's an event boss only up for a few days. To have a substantial amount of people at 80 by end of October they would have to release WotLK now.

Nice additions, but I just hope they've increased the drop rate for the Sinister Squashling. I do not exaggerate when I say that I tried 42 times last year and did not get it. :(

All I could think when I saw the picture is why is this man riding a horse naked? I've never ridden a horse but that doesn't seem the least bit comfortable.

It worked for Lady Godiva...

Oh man, Hallow's Eve is the first event I remember when my first main, an undead rogue, was leveling through Tirisfal. This event will mark my one-year anniversary of playing this game.
Damn, i didn't know it's been that long. Now that I've rerolled on a new realm (EU to US transfers are difficult), I'll have to pick up a swift broom for my new main. That's going to be amazing.
Mora Jul 12th 2008 4:32AM
It will be my one year also. Now I can get a Ram!
Ace Jul 11th 2008 9:53PM
I can't wait. I wasn't nearly high enough level last year to take on the Headless Horseman, so I missed out. I'd love that mount for my Undead Rogue, though!
I hope he's easier to kill than Ahune, though. I wiped every time with that guy.
Mr. Smite Jul 12th 2008 4:43AM
He's much much easier than Ahune, unless they're buffing his strength which I doubt. Heck, a few level 70s were taking one or two level 30s with them sometimes so they could get the loot to look forward to.

Can't wait!
Mergetvs Jul 11th 2008 10:47PM
yeah I would say that if everything is designed for 70's then Post October.
Also at least he will be easy as hell to get to compared to ahune,
At 70 it is a walk in the park to get to where he spawns in the Graveyard in the Scarlett Monastary. We'd clear the area around him Just so stray arrows from multishots wouldn't be wasted on crap trash pulls.
Here's hoping that the Brooms are permanent this year

Wow... finally a mount. I am going to kill the horsemen a 1000 times if needed. I love all the dead/evil horses. I have all the ones that are instance drops, the rep, and pvp ones.
>_<

Do you have a Baron mount?
