Funny, my server (Madoran) is the exact opposite of the one mentioned in the article.
During the week, prices are significantly higher than they are through the weekend. I attribute it to the weekend influx of people who have "spendable time" on their hands. More folks with more stuff = more supply, lower prices.
Also, our server has gone completely whacky since 2.4. Not just the gems. If you want to make money hand over fist, roll an herber. It seems as if everyone is doing the Isle dailies and just not bothering to farm anymore. Same goes for leather and ore, but not on such a mind-boggling level. 70g for a stack of outlands herbs - painful for raiders (pot/elixir prices have skyrocketed as well) but heavenly times for herbers.
