What I find a good thing to do is make a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel or the like), and record the daily average price of whatever items you have easy access to. This is essentially the same function as the Auctioneer add-on, but it involved you physically typing out the prices, which will give you knowledge of the prices/market norms, instead of relying entirely on an add on. Auctioneer can be fooled by people posting single auctions for either really low or really high, which will throw your prices off to either lower your prices, or cause your auctions to not sell.
If you want to make money on the auction house, it will take a good deal of time and thought, and you will always need to remember, it is IMPOSSIBLE to SAFELY make a fortune in a short period of time. Be patient, and the gold will flow like wine.
