Around Azeroth: Barbie's revenge
It looks like this Shadowsworn Enforcer is having some difficulty holding up her claymore. I guess that's what happens when your in-game model is based off a blow-up doll. Anyway, Raelivh of Bleeding Hollow was hanging around the Altar of Storms in Blasted Lands (the one near Lady Sevine), when he noticed that the high elf models there had not been updated to the new blood elf ones. From the looks of things, I think we can figure out why they changed the models to blood elves. They may be skinny and annoying, but at least they don't look like they came out of a PS1 game.
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it.
Note for all you Caption This fans: I'm going to be on vacation without internet access for the weekend and part of next week, so rather than risk missing replies, we've decided to run CT next Tuesday instead of this Tuesday. Sorry about that!

Excellent. :)
I think the Highborne ghosts in Ghostlands use the old model too. Possibly the ones in Hinterlands too? Too lazy to check.
Kind of creepy.

That's also how NE females hold two-handed swords. It just looks awful.
zappo Jul 15th 2008 11:09AM
That elf is a highborne not a high elf. Highborne are night elves that chose to infuse themselves with magical energy or something like that. Essentially they use the night elf models and have pale skin... and that causes them to look creepy as hell.
If you drop by the ghostlands, there's a bunch of highborne ghosts over there in a batch of ruins.
zappo Jul 15th 2008 11:12AM
Oops, just saw that this is indeed supposed to be a high elf. My bad :p

That's a greatsword fighting stance called "High Guard". Also known as Falcon Guard or Hawks Bill stance.
Groth Jul 15th 2008 12:23PM
Looks more like the hanging guard to me, instead of high guard which rather looks like you're about to get a sword to the noggin!
jbodar Jul 15th 2008 11:39PM
Groth is teh correct.

Actually, looking at her hands it looks more like Key Guard, with the blade resting on the support arm.

Nah, the Ghostlands Highborne model kind of makes sense since they're ancestral ghosts of the night elf expatriates that landed on the Thalassian Peninsula or somehting. I think.
However, the Highborne model used for High Elves in Blasted Lands and Scholomance is annoying, and I'm surprised Blizzard never changed them.
Ah well, same company never designed female Broken or lady Ogres. Boring.
Braundo Jul 15th 2008 12:14PM
There may be lady ogres, but to borrow a line, "you can't tell the difference." :)

This exact picture is on the screenshots section on wowhead.com ....hope it was the same person posting it.

Yeah, it was ;)

For those who have never heard it, the female high elf scream is incredibly labored and melodramatic.
I still feel it's one of the best sounds in the game.
Go kill her. It's a riot. Used to be the favorite part of that horde Hinterlands quest... just killing dozens of these to hear the sound.
jbodar Jul 15th 2008 11:34PM
So you like to kill women, just to hear the sound they make when they die? Am I getting this right? Nooooo, nothing creepy about that at ALL, Mr. Bateman.

Actually, that shot's a still from the latest Madonna video.

What bothers me here is that the socalled Barbie has more of Sylvester Stallone's facial features.
