Breakfast Topic: Mount money and patch 2.4.3
The most anticipated change coming with patch 2.4.3 for a good portion of the player base is the lowering of the requirement for basic land mounts to level 30, complete with a slash of the price of training down to 35 gold. Overall, this is very good news for anyone who is leveling or plans to level a new character any time soon.
With this change, though, has come a dilemma for many people with characters in the level 30-40+ range in the past few weeks:
- If my character just hit 30, do I keep on going, or shelve him until I can buy a mount so I don't have to hoof it through Stranglethorn Vale?
- If my character just hit 40, do I buy the mount now, or do I wait until the patch so I can save a whole pile of gold?
These questions seem to end up being talked about quite a bit whenever 2.4.3 comes up. More 40s than I expected seem to have just purchased a higher priced mount with reckless abandon. I suppose, in a way, it makes some sense. If you already have a level 70, the pre-2.4.3 cost of a land mount (which comes to about 100g before any faction discounts) isn't that hard to overcome -- it's really about a day dedicated to daily quests. So if you have an itch to keep playing that 40, buying the mount is only a bump in the road to anyone who sets aside a day or two a week for daily quests.
For those who only have low level characters, waiting for patch 2.4.3 to buy is probably a bit wiser, since it's not quite as easy to make the full 100g. Then again, on many servers, it's still more than doable with a gathering profession and a bit of wise AH use.
How have you been treating the mount news? Has it stopped you from leveling or buying the riding skill at the lower levels, or have you just been going on as normal?

My priest is lvl 44 and still waiting on her mount. I made the last push for my 3rd lvl 70 epic flyer this weekend so I wanted to make sure that all possible money went to that. The priest will get her mount when they are cheap :)

=3 I'm very excited for my 38 lock twink (yes, 38 ^.^). I always felt bad about twinking my one and only warlock, that I would never get to have the mount - now is my chance, and as a bonus, it will (imo) make PvP a lot more fun!

I personally didn't really wait for patch 4.2.3. I just was leveling my char anyway and since I had over the 300g already on level 30 I didn't really mind to buy a mount for the normal cost on level 40.
Now I am level 34 on the current char and I will buy the cheaper now.

I bought my undead mages mount as soon as i got to 40. As you said Dan, with gathering professions getting money is more then easy. Can only hope for some sort of rebate if they implement the patch within a few weeks. But, I dont see that happening

My lock will stop at 30 until the patch - I did enough walking with my main thanks very much and it's tiresome to do it again.
I'll level my druid in the meantime, or else do some extra work on my main.

I have two alts sitting on 30 right now - with mount fund - waiting.

I hit 39 on my rogue alt last night, so we'll see if the patch goes in today. If so, I'll buy my mount and try it out a bit in the 30-39 bracket. If not, then I'll ding 40 this evening and buy my mount that way.
Not knowing when Wrath is going to hit I want to get to 70 as soon as possible so I can start gathering gear and get *shutter* another epic flying mount.

Two of my alts are shelved at 30 awaiting their mounts.
As a player with a lvl70 already, I sure have the gold, but an epic flying mount makes you lazy :P 20-30 without any speed increase (ghost wolf, cat form, teleport) can be quiet disturbing at times.

The patch is downloading now :D

Woot! Yeah, I had to try signing in, but I got a "Patch Required" message and the patch started downloading for me, too! :)

30 atm, got enough gold for the mount atm.
*first and only char*
And just a bit of smart ah use is more then enough. Ticked the 70gold already.

My priest was lvl 34 when they made the annoucement. She is sitting at Southshore waiting on this patch. I have gotten very good at avoiding STV due to all the running. Maybe now I'll enjoy it again. In the meantime, my shammy hasn't been lvled in over a year.....
And yeah, a few dailies might cover the current cost, but why waste the gold on an alt? saving for a 3rd and 4th elite flyer wastes more than enough.
KeltRanger Jul 15th 2008 8:38AM
I have 1 lvl 44 hunter with mount, 1 lvl 40 paladin with a war horse and I have 7 lvl 30's waiting to be mounted...I have over 20k gp in my bank through AH play (I am addicted to buying and selling, maybe having all my alts mounted will get me out of the city a bit more) but I will still wait to buy the mounts cheap....
whackopanther Jul 15th 2008 8:39AM
Not a topic anymore. Patch is up.
AJ Jul 15th 2008 9:08AM
my hunter and rogue are shelved at 30, from what i hear patch is up, i might just leave work now ;)

For me, the question is more "Do I buy 4x 22 Slot Bags for my main, or epic flying for my alt (level 58 now)?"
I'm still unsure.
Tech Jul 15th 2008 9:05AM
Vanity (22 slot bags) vs. Practicality (epic flyer)
No question in my mind, get the epic flyer.
Then use your super speed to blow through dailies and gathering (if you have) to buy some bags that will probably become standard when WotLK drops.
Markymark Jul 15th 2008 9:15AM
W00t hurray for the patch!
