WoW Moviewatch: The Invisible Pink Unicorn
Oxhorn decided to mix machinima and religion in his latest piece, mocking the scientific community and their beliefs. For those not offended by that, check out the script! Now who's up for a trip to Candy Mountain?

Loved it. Only Oxhorn could tackle such a huge issue as this and yet still keep it lighthearted enough to view pleasantly.

Saying neither is better (Science or Religion) is futile; Both are based on theory and are imperfect, blind belief in either is bad.
But in Science we have a method of enquiry that religion deprives us of, as religion is set in stone, interpretable in many different ways, but unchanging.
Science evolves to answer questions about things around us. We may never ever know the real truth, but believing in a delusion is not a 'better' option than Science.
Creationism is: Heres what the book says, Now lets find some 'proof', it is a mockery of the intelligence that may or may not have been given to us by some higher power.
It is better to have a flexible idea instead :)

When people start believing that a marble exploded into every single piece of the universe of invisible space junk magically defies the laws of physics rather then another argument the "flexibility" argument loses some steam.
On a side note why does everyone automatically term creationism as a purely Christian concept?

if any of you are just disappointed about it, just bloiting ask him yourself. he's just making his list of ideas come to life, which is whatever strikes him as a neat idea.

As the Cook from South Park said so long ago:
"I'm not touching this subject even with a 50 feet pole"

I'm not taking a stance in this argument. However, I know that some people will feel strongly opinionated about it one way or another. I just liked it for the Candy Mountain reference!

The funny part is the whole IPU thing is satire towards theistic religion anyways. That was pretty funny props to oxhorn again for another funny video.
Markymark Jul 16th 2008 12:31PM
Pretty funny.
Adam Jul 16th 2008 12:26PM
Oxhorn is half right here - the idea of directed panspermia is ridiculous. The idea that it's accepted in the scientific community is also ridiculous, however. Ascribing anything to aliens without proof is junk science.
Michael O. Jul 16th 2008 12:34PM
Logic FAIL.
Only the most foolish of engineers could think that the IPU goring someone right in front of them doesn't count as 'proof' of, well, something.
The rest of we engineers will be breaking out the cameras, measuring sticks, and prototype Gnomish IPU Capturing devices.
darian Jul 16th 2008 2:20PM
That's the point really. This isn't about the majority of engineers, just the ridiculous, self-important ones (and an exaggeration thereof).
jwbowyer Jul 16th 2008 12:39PM
*stands up*
*starts clapping*
I bow to you, your reasonable and logical argument, and the candy mountain reference. Loved it.

I know by saying this I am effectively tossing myself into a shark infested pool wearing a suit of raw meat buut...
This video made me lose alot of respect for Oxhorn.

I agree. The circular logic used by both the Engineers and the Protagonist is pretty easily handled by an entry level philosophy class. Which I took. While studying as an engineer. The answer is, of course, that there is no answer and it boils down to a long held dilemma. The presentation of the anti-IPU view as infallible, and the Engineers as haughty and grossly out of touch, is a disservice to any significant discussion of the matter.
And since I believe a little bit of column A and column B I am once again relegated to the following: personal faith for your explanation of the original spark of life, lest you run into an ever expanding stack of Elephants the world rests on.
Ted Jul 16th 2008 6:28PM
Edit: pro-IPU, not anti-IPU
/facepalm

Pink unicorn in my WoW please no more.
This subject should not even be here.

*shrug* In regard to the enginners refusing to accept the daftness of this guys position, I am reminded of Prachett, one of the main characters has just said he doesn't believe in the God's. Then he gets struck by lightening and says "I don't call that much of an arguement".
It's a sort of idea that if your God isn't bright enough to prove himself by debate then he doesn't deserve to exist.
Just my two penneth, and this is quite a good little movie :D
Blake Jul 16th 2008 1:06PM
LMAO! That was pretty funny... Well... IMO anyway. I didn't find it offensive and I'm an atheist.
Blake Jul 16th 2008 1:08PM
Although... I seriously hope Azeroth wasn't created by a pink unicorn.
