OK, let's go with your line of thinking for a minute. Wouldn't it be more logical to assume that it's in response to their actual current largest competition (EQII & LotRO) instead of in response to their theoretically-possible-maybe-future largest competition (WAR)?

In reality, this is just a bunch of WAR fanboy nonsense. Yes, this is a "Keeping up with the Joneses" maneuver. But, it's not due to fear of any single competitor. It's just Blizzard catching up with a feature that has become an industry standard.
