A few bits on shaves and haircuts
The biggest news of the day so far would have to be the Achievements system. Linked within Blizz's Achievements page is the screenshot you see above (click to embiggen), which contains some interesting new hints for the highly anticipated haircut system that we'll be getting access to in Wrath:
- You'll be able to change:
- Hair Style
- Hair Color
- Facial Hair (and presumably the attributes in that slot for other races/genders, like jewelry)
- It looks to be pretty cheap - the example price here is a mere 2 silver. This is surprising to me because I was pretty sure it was going to be a big gold sink.
- The barber shop looks pretty cool; apparently, this one is run by goblins, although the engineering on the chairs looks more Gnomish to me.
Alright, there's not a lot there, and as the beta has not even begun yet any of this may well change (especially the price), but it's something. By the way, does anyone have a clue as to what the icon on the top-right of the minimap is? That's where the sun/moon icon usually goes. David hazarded a guess that it's a picture of a window, indicating that you're inside; my only theory is that it's the icon for the Achievements interface, though it's oddly big and in a strange place.

I'm guessing that the prices scales with level. 1 silver just seems too cheap.

Maybe, but 2s seems kinda cheap for level 10 if that's the case. This rogue has Slice and Dice and Sprint on his bar, so he's at least that high.
Also, he was clearly in a hurry to get his haircut...his Sprint is on cooldown...

Tssk, the interface I'm not too interested about, I want to see what the new hairstyles/facial hair styles will be like! Also, I have never heard of a do-it-yourself kind of barbershop... there's no one there to actually cut your hair... it would certainly be interesting in reality to have that kind of store :p

maybe the 1silver odd in the picture is how much the person is carrying on them? in the same was as the AH tells you how much money you have on you in the bottom left

My guess about the icon in the corner where the moon/sun would be is the Achievement menu. Since they moved the time to the bottom of the mini map it makes sense they would get rid of the moon/sun and use that space for something like the Achievements.

On the official Wrath website, it states under the section 'The Achievements Windows': "Upon starting your journey in Wrath of the Lich King, you’ll see a new button on your main action bar. Click that button to bring up the achievements window." In the picture above, there's a new button between the Talents button and the Quest log button. I would think that would be the new button refered to on the official site. Why would it be on the minimap as well?

Good point, can't believe I missed that.

It looks like a somewhat like calender, and its in the same area as the GroupCalender addon goes, and Blizz likes making good addons part of the stock UI. No need for the clock face like GroupCalender since Blizz made a digital one so it couls be a calender addon. Still doesn't solve the "why is it so big?" question though.
Jeremy Jul 17th 2008 5:12PM
No, the achievements button is in the bottom menu, between Talents and Quests.

The icon looks like a calendar to me....
Yeng Jul 17th 2008 5:12PM
It would be just like Blizzard to make the 'coolest' haircuts to cost more. So if you want to be all the rave, you'll need to fork out the big bucks ;)
Derick Jul 17th 2008 5:16PM
The Achievement interface is down on the action bar between Quests and Talents.
At least thats what the button resembles to me. The fact that there is a crest down there and another in the Achievement itself looks to be kinda a sign.

A few bits, hmm? Wouldn't be 2 bits, would it? :P
Malkeior Jul 17th 2008 5:21PM
Looks like a calendar to me
Dightkuz Jul 17th 2008 6:51PM
More like a rooftop of a human house.

Considering how Blizzard likes to work, the price for new hair/faces will prolly work like the respec'ing fees: The more you change the hair, the more expensive it gets, up to a maximum of x g. I think that 1s will be the starting cost.
Bunkai Jul 17th 2008 5:54PM
OR... the more you change, the more it costs.
1s for just hair color, 1g for hair style and hair color, 5g for facial hair style, hair style, and hair color... etc.
I'd wager to bet that it will scale in that fashion... much like going to a real barber shop/salon. The more work you have done... the more you pay for it.
Scott Jul 17th 2008 5:23PM
I'm guessing the price scales with level
Malkeior Jul 17th 2008 5:23PM
Looks like a calendar to me, It probably big so it can take up that whole corner space without leaving unnecessary gaps.
Stormtamer Jul 17th 2008 5:25PM
Is it just me, or does the barber shop remind anyone of the one in The Curse of Monkey Island?
