Breakfast Topic: What kind of Achievements are you looking forward to in WotLK?

So while my wife is looking forward to doing all the, ahem, frivolous things like getting a haircut -- she'll probably unlock that one in the first hour of the expansion's release -- or giving out ten hugs (!), I'll be grinding away at the PvP-oriented Achievements. Hot Streak is certainly doable; I've been an Alterac Valley All-Star more than a few times; but getting City Defender looks like it'll take a little bit more work. How about you? What category of Achievements are you most interested in? Are you a professions freak, a quest addict, or maybe an explorer? It looks like there's something for every type of player. What kind of Achievements do you think you'll be unlocking often?

Personally, I'm looking forward to off-beat achievements geared towards the more out-there stuff. While most of what I'd like to see is general achievements, I'd love to see exploration achievements for those off the beaten path areas such as Cut-throat Alley and the Shrine of the Fallen Warrior.
...is it wishful thinking to ask for an achievement for rolling on an RP server? "lol wuts RP?" xD

Seriously "Achievement diary" is stolen from runescape ,
i vote for "Runescape explored" , oh wait it isnt there :(
And i dont play runescape , when i played i remember there was some "Achievement diary"

Achievements have been around for years now, starting with the Skill Points feature in Insomniac Games' Spyro 2 and then getting fully fleshed out and becoming more 'public' on the 360 with Microsoft's Achievements and Gamerscore system, while Runescape's have only been around for a year or so (I haven't checked, but I assume that's about right).

Any alt-based achievements

I'm actually sort of dreading one. For instance getting a character to 80 on both factions. I never really informed my main guild that I sort of rolled an alliance toon (for peace and quiet). They sort of assumed I just started playing the game less. Now it's going to be "Oh, where did this level 80 alliance toon you have come from?" Guess I should start thinkng up the "it's my girlfriend's character" type excuses now.

Achievements are fairly trivial for me, chances are I'm not going to go out of my way to get any. If there are some humorous/Easter-eggs then chances are I'll prob get those though maybe something like 100 deaths in an BG.

- drown trying to open a lockbox
- make 10 forum threads complaining about Vanish
- camp Raven Hill Cemetery for 1 hour
- win a battleground while performing more "/spit" and "/mock" than killing blows
- use all cooldowns + Preparation versus a warrior without killing him

Win.

What category of Achievements are you most interested in?
- 100 pink hair gnomes killed

Even before I heard about achievements I've always thought about exploring whole of Azeroth just for fun on one of my characters. So I guess I'm gonna be mostly exploring. Especially if it involves me getting a title like, "Explorer".

Some achievements look interesting. I'll have to see the rewards to really decide. But if the profession achievements are anything like "Make 10 Riding Crops" they can stuff 'em in a sack. And I'll make the damn sack.
Argent Jul 18th 2008 11:00AM
actually, that one should be super easy, since they've brought the crop-as-a-mount-enchant thing back. :)

I want my "Collect 25 vanity pets" achievement since I already have over 30 on my priest and at least 15 on most of my other alts.
This is the sort of thing that WoW was really missing in my opinion... ever since City of Heroes I have LOVED any sort of badge/deed/achievement system. I get addicted to them, it's crazy. I guess it's the pokemon trainer in me, gotta catch 'em all.

A seasonal/PVP combo:
- Knock a gnome off the Dun Baldar bridge with a snowball
Or another PVP one for living in the past:
- Complain about your previous BG for the first 5 minutes of your next one
Also I will admit, I've drowned while trying to open a lockbox on my rogue :(

Considering my favorite thing ever done in Wow was getting the "Champion of the Naruu" title, I'm going with instance/raid achievements.
And the SH timed run was a pain at the time.

Does anyone know at what level the achievements will start at? Right from the off, or do you have to get to 60/70/80 before you can start them?
bumble Jul 18th 2008 8:55AM
none as I bet it'll be poorly implemented like "collect all plans for your profession" good luck grinding Molten Core for the missing random 1% boss drop plans :D
Makoto99 Jul 18th 2008 9:06AM
I would guess they'd have different tiers of those.
- Collect all trainer plans for your profession
- Collect all vendor plans for your profession
- Collect all Uncommon/Rare/Epic plans for your profession
For the gathering ones, I'm guessing there would be the obvious "Salvage X number" ones for starters.

Anything that doesn't require me to roll a new character.*
But more specifically, boss kills, and past PvP season ranks/titles/etc.
You know, the achievements that mean you're skilled. Achievements that aren't e-peen, but more of a gauge for future guild/arena involvement.
"What's your raiding experience?"
Just look at my Achievements.
"What was your rating last season?"
Check my Achievements.
Useful stuff--sort of a reputation for your character, for others to reflect upon.
*I'm not doing those silly alt achievements. "Level a character to 80 in every class." Yea, good luck getting me to waste my life on questing any more than the next 10 levels I plan to do.
