Death Knights at the Dawn
Okay, this is so massively spoiler ridden for Death Knights, their role in the lore, and how you will be experiencing their gameplay that I cannot in good conscience post it without first warning you, and more than once. This is pretty darn epic, and thanks to the folks at DeathKnight.info, I can finally say I now actually want to play a Death Knight. (If you follow that link you may well see spoilers, so be warned.)No, I'm completely serious here. This is levels upon levels of spoilers that deal with years of Warcraft lore. If you want to see this fresh when you first roll your new Death Knight, then you don't want to read any further. It involves factions and characters we've all come to know. I personally love this kind of thing, but if you're someone who just can't stand finding out before you get to experience it yourself, then you shouldn't read any further.
You still here?
Okay. I'm not going to post the link or explain what I'm talking about here on the front page. I don't think that would be cool. So we're going to take this into the dark, shadowy places Death Knights are pretty at home in anyway. Follow me, if you will... after the jump.
(Cue diabolical laughter.)
The questline is called "The Light of Dawn" and as you can see from those screenshots, we're talking epic levels of Warcraft and even WoW lore from the past few years. The Argent Dawn, the Scarlet Crusade, the Mograine family (who knew our favorite Ashbringer had so many sons?) and even badasses like Korfax, Champion of the Light. You even get to see a straight up faceoff between the Lich King himself and Tirion Fordring.
Just from staring dazedly at the screenshots it appears that Arthas decides to send a whole battle host at the Argent Dawn at Light's Hope Chapel, and you're one of the big guns leading the attack. From there, it's carnage, destruction, warriors of the frozen wastes (yay, I love those guys... well, okay, no I don't) and an eventual lore explosion as Darion confronts his father's ghost, we find out why Light's Hope Chapel is still a threat to Arthas, and see the Lich King go toe to toe with the greatest paladin left alive.
In the end, two new orders... the Knights of the Ebon Blade, free death knights led by Darion, and the Argent Crusade, born from the union of the Argent Dawn and the Order of the Silver Hand... take up arms to go kick the Lich King's shapely, if somewhat frozen, tuchus. Honestly, the quest is so awesome I have to say things like that to keep from getting ridiculously excited. If you like spoilers (and man, I do) then go check it out.
Thanks again to DeathKnight.info for making me go slightly crazy with lore.

In the video why does it look like the DK has a blue energy bar? i thought it was just rune based?
Malkeior Jul 18th 2008 11:20PM
Its the runic power bar, it fills up as you use runes, his runes are in the bubbles right underneath that bar.
magicalteddies Jul 18th 2008 11:21PM
I can haz comment?

WOW that really sounds amazing and epic.
Blizz said they wanted to bring lore to the player in better ways, these is definetly it.
I will make a DK just for the experience.
But I just wish that other classes could get a similar treatment,a splash of fresh Lore in a more interactive way.

'Queue' mate. One of my biggest WoW pet peeves.
Malkeior Jul 18th 2008 11:48PM
Actually it would be 'cue'
SkwidSpawn Jul 18th 2008 11:54PM
No actually, that's a misconception as well.
Cue: a thing said or done that serves as a signal to an actor or other performer to enter or to begin their speech or performance.
Queue: a line or sequence of people or vehicles awaiting their turn to be attended to or to proceed.
Malkeior Jul 19th 2008 12:10AM
I know, he's "cuing" diabolical laughter, not putting diabolical laughter in a "queue".
Malkeior Jul 19th 2008 12:11AM
I know, he's "cuing" diabolical laughter, not putting diabolical laughter in a "queue", silly. :P
Matthew Rossi Jul 19th 2008 1:09AM
Yes, think of 'cue' as stage directions here. I'm telling someone to do something, I'm not lining it up.

What is under the chapel that Arthas is afraid of?
Dios28 Jul 19th 2008 12:33AM
It seems like the souls of all the people the scourge have killed.
Badger Jul 19th 2008 4:31PM
Dude, they are gonna go all Undead Hebrew from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" on Arthas' ass. No wonder he's nervous.
JDM Jul 19th 2008 12:16AM
Yeah, in that video it was pretty amazing how they could take on mobs such as the elite and not visibly (was fairly low quality vid, but still) lose any health...
Malkeior Jul 19th 2008 12:33AM
During the quest, you get a buff called Might of Mograine.
It reads:"Empowered by the might of Highlord Darion Mograine. Your damage, health and health regeneration are greatly increased. You are an unstoppable force of darkness!
It turns a 5k health pool into 36K...
JDM Jul 19th 2008 4:48AM
Would it still be active while grinding in WPL? I thought it was only for the LHC event?
Zei Jul 19th 2008 12:19AM
Aw, the Scarlet Monastery event with the Corrupted Ashbringer was retconned.
Matthew Rossi Jul 19th 2008 1:10AM
No, I don't think it was.
Mograine is known to have two sons. Darion Mograine is not Renault Mograine, the one who dies in the SM Corrupted Ashbringer event And it's said in that quest that Mograine's other son could reforge the blade, so it's fair to assume that he may well have made one for himself.

The Burning Crusade: The drunk driver who hit and killed Warcraft Lore
Wrath of the Lich King: The paramedics that revived it just in time.

Damn, I meant to put a question mark at the end of that last sentence. Just imagine it there.
