Phat Loot Phriday: Verigan's Fist

Name: Verigan's Fist (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWWiki)
Type: Rare Two-hand Mace
Damage/Speed: 65-99 / 3.20 (25.6 DPS)
Abilities:
- +7 Stamina, +6 Intellect, +12 Spirit. A Paladin hammer of justice if there ever was one, and not just because it's only for Pallies.
- The quest you can get it at (see below) is at level 20, and the weapon is so nice for the level it'll easily last you most of the way towards the 30s. There's no two ways about it -- any Paladin poking around midlevel should be wielding this hammer. Unless you're healing all the time, this is the thing to hit bad guys with. As soon as you get it, enchant it, because odds are that you'll keep it for a while.
- And it's one of the best quest rewards before 60 -- in my opinion, one of the best for-the-level weapons in the game.
Blood Elf Pallys have a much easier quest, and can nab the Blood-Tempered Ranseur. But Verigan's Fist is a classic, so we're featuring that one. The Whirlwind Weapon is a good one for Warriors, but that's three different weapons -- no other weapon exemplifies a class, in our humble opinion, as much as this one. Disagree? Sound off in the comments.
Getting Rid of It: Sells to vendors for 74s 59c. Disenchants into a Small Glowing Shard. But don't get rid of it -- good Paladins always walk softly and carry a big hammer.

Hmmmm, gotta be human, sure on that?
Kithelas Jul 18th 2008 9:07PM
Meh, you beat me to it.
Cliffrunner Jul 18th 2008 9:11PM
dwarves and drainos can be pallies too
r tard
Tobiathin Jul 18th 2008 10:13PM
Hey, Cliffrunner, yes. That is quite obvious. But allow me to state that you did not spell Draenei correctly, nor "retard". And thus, have nothing to say along the lines of insulting a writer of the articles you read.
Seriously, get some respect for the people that work to give you these things.
Blake Jul 18th 2008 9:15PM
"You've got to be an Alliance Paladin, which means Human." What do you mean? Not only humans can be Paladins on the human side but also 1 or 2 other races afaik.
Reinard Jul 18th 2008 9:29PM
Is he aware? Yes. Was it a mistake? Unlikely.
Reinard Jul 18th 2008 9:41PM
I totally hit reply to Procris' post, but okay, my point is still there o_O Fuggincommentsystem...

Well i've got both a Alliance pally and Horde pally and i still prefer Verigan's Fist over Blood Tempered Ranseur. Ranseur has better stats but Verigan's has better top end damage and is slower, which is better for SoC. Only downside is the spirt which is kind of useless. I got Vergian's fist at lvl 20 with along with another paladin and it served me well for a good couple of lvls.
Braundo Jul 18th 2008 9:27PM
Wha? VF has 25.6 DPS, Ranseur has 19.7. The Fist is way better :)
ninjasuperspy Jul 21st 2008 7:56AM
Agreed. Stats on the Ranseur are more effective for a Paladin (+12 spirit? WTF), but the damage on the fist is far and away better. Of course the quest for the Ranseur is nearly all solo-able (except the full clear of RFC at 20), and Hordies are going to Shadowfang anyway.
Personally I think that Blizz didn't want the Fist to last from 20-35 in the first place. If they had it to do over again... well they'd make the Ranseur, as that is what they did. The only shame is that the Sin'dorei Warblade is basically superior to the Ranseur for ret at 20, and who isn't ret at that stage of the game? Really the Warblade beats the spear in everything but mesh. And it is basically a tie there.
Blake Jul 18th 2008 9:14PM
lol he's not a retard because he dosn't know that not only humans can be pallies on the alliance side... Most of the people of this world don't know that and most of those people aren't retards. Like 99% afaik.
Procris Jul 18th 2008 9:19PM
I'm sure Mike Schramm is perfectly aware that the other 2 paladin races on Alliance can also do this quest, he just left it out of his post by mistake.
Zamn Jul 18th 2008 9:30PM
I think that was probably a humorous comment, because if you're going to be an Alliance Paladin you SHOULD be human.
Braundo Jul 18th 2008 9:29PM
This item always stuck in my mind because, unlike the Horde version, you've got to go into enemy territory to get it -- and usually along a particularly long and perilous path. I remember crossing Arathi Highlands on my L20 paladin on my way to SFK and being scared out of my wits :)
maolrubha Jul 18th 2008 9:32PM
Yeah. Because Stoneform as a protadin is absolutely worthless.
ohwait.
Dotixi Jul 18th 2008 9:35PM
Guys, guys, calm down now...this is Mike Schramm who did this article, so of course it's full of errors.
Tone Jul 18th 2008 9:37PM
I JUST got this today on my human pally alt =D
Zep Jul 18th 2008 9:38PM
I would disagree though, Dwarf paladins have some things going for them too.
Like being too short to notice!
twh Jul 18th 2008 10:29PM
Or, if it's a female dwarf, being too awesome for words.
twh Jul 18th 2008 10:30PM
And just a note, both Draenei and Dwarves can use it, both my Draenei Ret pally, my Dwarf ret pally, and my prot pally main still has it in his bank.
I could never get rid of such a great thing that served me from levels 20-35.
