The Achievements UI: a guided tour
It's not secret that I'm very excited about Achievements. Over 500 little questlets to do and work on all the time, with snazzy tabards and pets as rewards? Sold. But aside from a few screenshots on Blizzard's official page, we've had little idea what it was going to look like for the players. Now, thanks to Skosiris of Wowhead, that's going to change (Wowhead's WotLK site just opened up to the public, by the way). He sent me these exclusive screenshots from the beta just a little while ago – click on for a promenade through the Achievements UI.

Very Nice.

Holy... Number of times jumped?
That's got to be in the billions for me.

Everything you've done in vanilla and BC will be carried over to the achievements and unlocked when you first sign in right?
Okänd Jul 18th 2008 7:33PM
I'm not so sure about that. I don't think the game for example tracks how many jumps you've made as it is right now.

Some things are trivial to be carried over, like leveling a profession, getting to 70 or getting HK's
I don't think they keep info like "max distance fallen without dying" though...

That's one of the things that most disappoints me here. :( Unless Blizz has been keeping ridiculous amounts of data on all this "just in case," (and let's face it, that seems very unlikely) I'll always wish I'd had this statistical info tracked going back to when I first created my toons who are already to 70. Knowing "How many times have I jumped since WotLK?" just doesn't have the same impact as "How many times have I jumped in my entire life?"

LOL ... the only thing more hilarious would be a ranking based on how many times you jumped ...
I'ld never have believed "How many times have I jumped in my entire life?" does impact ANYONES life. But I guess I was wrong, all those nervous bunnies actually have a purpose to what they are doing ... then again there are also tools to track your mouse clicks and key strokes ... damn, my life is pretty meaningless compared to that ... NOT

We know what the Collector's Edition pet will be now. A "Frost Wyrm Whelp" pet was in the data files, and I had a feeling it would be the pet for the Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition. You can see the image of it here.

If you go thru the Achievements, you will notice there is one for it.
"Collector's Edition: Frost Wyrm Whelp
Owner of the Wrath of the Lich King's Collector's Edition Frost Wyrm Whelp pet"

I could not be more excited with this.

I already know that my character has jumped 30 057 times last time I checked it. I have an addon called Historian and it tracks "useless" information like how many times I have jumped, what is my most used ability and how many times I have used it, amount of common, uncommon, rare, epic and legendary items I have gained, number of mobs killed, where I have dinged and when, falling damage taken, times been drunk, how many times I have eating something etc. I love it and it seems like the Achievements-system will be just like it.

WAR rip off, I are Blizzard.
Yeah, sure..all fair in games and subscribers, but this is blatant thievery of what WAR has been putting into their game for some time. 500 quests isn't a lot either. Try having 12000 for your character, besides the 40 levels, 80 PvP levels, and then your guild levels.....why you all enjoy the same old flavor of WoW rolled into a new box, I'll be enjoying WAR and the real makers of an achievement system

Um, actually, the first MMO I saw with content like this in it was City of Heroes.

I think I'll stick with real achievements... like the 360 ones. Not some second-rate 'lets try to be like everyone else' attempt at achievements.
Blizzard are only doing this because everyone else it and we all know it started with Microsoft followed by Valve on release of Portal/TF2/HL2:E2 with 360/PC.
