Wrath of the Lich King login screen
While we've had some fake Wrath of the Lich King login screens before, this one is the real deal. It's being reported on by numerous sites, and several people have confirmed its authenticity. The image itself is of a ice fortress. You can see the version, 3.0.1, along with the latest build number and date: July 15, 2008.
Many people will notice that you have to sign in via an email address. This is part of a new system that Blizzard has put into place for the Wrath beta. Essentially, you'll have to create a new "Blizzard Account" to log into the beta. This account is separate from your retail WoW account, however you still have to have a retail WoW account and a beta key to get one. There's not a ton of information out on the new account system they are using for this, but when we have more information on it we'll post it.
For now, enjoy your new login screen!

The Blizzard Account needed for the beta test is a temporary account that you create and then connect to your WoW account, and is solely used to log in to the Beta Test servers. It will expire once Beta is over.

Lookin' sharp.

This would make an awesome wallpaper, anyone have a 1280x1024 version?
szander Jul 18th 2008 5:15PM
I'd love to see how it is all animated, looks nice though. I wonder if you get stuff flying by in the background and stuff.

The chains are swaying a bit, the clouds move by and the snow is falling. That is all so far.

The first login screen without a portal motif. Weird.

Please DO NOT SPOIL the game for those who do not wish to see how things will look like before actually getting to play the game themselves!
Since you love to hide shit behind the break so much, why not put spoilers there as well to artificially pump up your page view count a bit more still.

I kinda have to agree here (although the person above me should prolly calm down a little bit). I'd like as much as possible of the game to be new and interesting to me that 1st time logging in. Or maybe take the idea that some of this networks sister sites have done (I think Joystiq did it for GTA IV for people sick of seeing stuff about it) and give us a main page that lets us filter out anything from the beta so we don't have to see it if we dont want to.
RanWitScissorz Jul 18th 2008 6:13PM
OMG a picture of mountains with snow, the horror of knowing what alpine regions look like, gasp! How could you Joystiq!?

hey dick, if you don't want to spoil the game than why the fack are you reading WoWInsider.
Faar Jul 18th 2008 6:42PM
Hey dick yourself, take a long walk off a short pier willya. Maybe you'll find a brain down there in the muck that makes you understand just because people like to read a WoW blog does not mean they want to get pictures of an unreleased expansion slapped right in the face when they browse in to the site.
Besides, what's it to you wether I want to get spoiled or not? You must feel pretty damn strong about it since you apparantly feel entitled to curse at me and insult me for no reason.
Anyway, your daddy just told you it's time for you to get off the PC, so you'd better do as he says or you'll get spanked again...

Since you're such a big boy, put WoWInsider on RSS. I did it over a year ago, I never see images as I scroll through articles. Just put it in RSS, and avoid anything with the words "Wrath of the Lich King" in the title. I won't explain how to put WoWInsider on RSS, since you're a big boy, and we're too busy with our daddies to tell you.

Judging by the alpha screenshots, I pretty sure that's supposed to be Icecrown Citadel. Makes sense, seeing as how that's where Arthas is and thus is the main focus of the expansion. Kind of like the Black Temple and Sunwell Plateau were for The Burning Crusade.
Adam Jul 18th 2008 5:32PM
The login screen backdrop is Icecrown Citadel, aka Home of the Lich King.

Tenchan Jul 19th 2008 2:20AM
Yes, the Beta is now opened and invites are going out. I know some people who did not get their invites yet, though.
vlad Jul 18th 2008 5:51PM
just download the beta and start it up.
you cant get on but you can still hear the music and see the movement.
its not against the eula to download the beta client. you wont get spanked :)

You guys notice how much Blizzard likes 'blizzards' in their expansions or addons?
Starcraft's expansion Brood War - New terrain was a snowbound wasteland.
Diablo II's expansion Lord of Destruction - Act 5 was a snowbound wasteland. Or frozen tundra or another term for blizzard land.
Warcraft III's expansion The Frozen Throne - Self explanatory, etc.
and most recently... da dum! WoW's Wrath of the Lich King - Northrend.
Blizzard likes a good blizzard.
When a new games comes out, we wait out the storm for the game to come.
I feel poetic, I think I will go write a poem about Blizz..

Maybe because snow is one of the few types of terra present on Earth, sheer coincidence... I don't know!

Why does the ESRB Notice say "game experience may change during online play" when there is no offline version? Usually it's for games that have a single player and a multiplayer?
