Wrath storage solutions
By now you have surely heard of the new Achievements system set up for Wrath of the Lich King. While this will finally give collectors an extra incentive and reward, players are a bit worried about their bag space. It was announced recently that non-combat pets and mounts would take up no bag space in Wrath, and instead, the item that currently houses the pet will serve to teach you a spell for summoning the pet, and then disappear.
While this is a huge weight off of the shoulders of many players, when reading through the current list of Achievements, one begins to wonder where all of their tabards, battleground tokens, badges, holiday items, epics, trinkets, and the like are going to go.
Although we don't have information regarding the storage of every item we'll soon be collecting, Tigole made the following statement:
Your bags will be ok. I promise. Pets, Mounts, Heroic Badges, BG Tokens are all getting storage space.
I wonder how badges and tokens are getting storage space. Surely, they cannot be turned into spells, and I don't have room for bags specifically dedicated to only one or the other, so I'm definitely interested to know what they have up their sleeves, and if any other collectible items will get similar treatment.

I would assume Badges and BG tokens will move to an arena points type system where you win a BG, you get three AV points, etc...

Good idea Nasrin... or maybe they will do it similar to the "keyring"
enkafiles Jul 23rd 2008 3:15PM
I think something like the keyring is likely, too...
it boils down to a stored number, but seems more "real".
Badger Jul 23rd 2008 3:53PM
I concur, it will be some sort of 'Keyring' system. Good call, McC.

My guess is that heroic badges and battleground tokens will be stored as a number, like the amount of gold you have, instead of as an item that takes up bag space.

What sort of bugs me is that nothing has been said about the pets/tokens/etc. that I've had to destroy because of lack of bag space.
I don't mind grinding them again but there's some unique stuff that is only available as a quest reward (mechanical chicken) that I will sorely miss.
I sort of feel like the guy from The Mist who was forced to destroy something I treasure when, if I had just waited a little longer, another solution would have become available.
:(

The chicken doesn't actually bind on pickup, so you can get it on the AH or from another player even if it's a quest reward.
drjonesac2 Jul 23rd 2008 3:22PM
But... But... Who would be crazy enough to sell their mechanical chicken?
Krick Jul 23rd 2008 11:20PM
I've sold all three quest reward mechanical chickens I've gotten so far, and I'm getting ready to turn in the quests for another one, which I will also sell.

Another possible option Blizz might re-visit to house Badges and Tokens is an adapted Key Chain. Just a little extra bag automatically added to our UI that auto expands as more items are placed into it and will only accept specific items.

according to a thread on the beta forums, this is what they think is going to happen.

Well, we have to remember that we also have an extra "bag" for our keys. Another "bag" for our tokens seems very possible.
Gabby Jul 23rd 2008 3:01PM
Badges and Tokens are all used as a form of currency along with Gold and Honor, so a point based value system or some form of currency tracker seems much more likely then special bags. I agree the Keyring idea seems sound as well.

Bah forget about pets and badges. Just give me a chain for all my trinkets. As a druid I have so many idols and trinkets its not funny. Add on 3 sets of gear and things get messy.

I'ma just hoping they do something 'bout Soul Shards. It's dodgy some classes (Locks, Hunters, Hybrids with gear sets) have to give up lots of bag space. Some may argue that it's different class mechanics that come with balancing, but bag space is one of those things that should be equal.

This hunter shakes her head thinking "Never thought I'd agree with a 'lock on something. What's the world coming to?"
But /agree.

Yeah, couldn't trinkets be held on a ring?
Mr Crispy Jul 23rd 2008 3:10PM
My first thought is something like bank tabs. Seems like the easiest solution for the tabards and such.

With the new Achievement system, they now can count the number of times you do something, show you a progress bar and give you an award. Who needs stinkin' badges and tokens anymore?
