Blizzard's
Wrath talent trees page has been updated with minor changes, such as new icons for Wrath talents, as well as major changes such as a long-clamored for polish to the
Mage trees. A noticeable change, for example, is the removal of Spirit from the equation for the Arcane tree. Potent Spirit and Student of the Mind, Spirit-based talents, were removed to make way for Arcane Flows and a reworked Netherwind Presence. The former reduces the cooldown on
Arcane Power,
Presence of Mind, and
Invisibility by 30 seconds, while the latter now grants a passive 6% spell haste at max rank.
Most changes are cosmetic -- the humorous placeholder icon used on many of the game's spells in development have been removed -- although astute players may find updates to the wordings of talents across the board. Other changes include some talents buffed and reduced in talent points such as the
Paladin talent
Vindication (down to 2 talent points, from 3; buffed to 20% from 15%). Check out
Wowhead's talent calculators, which haven't been updated as of this writing, for comparison.

So, what's the story with Maelstrom Weapon? Some sources indicate that 5/5 reduces cast time by 100%. The Blizzard page indicates cast time is only reduced by 20%. Sorry, but the latter is pretty useless to Enhancement. The 100% might actually be worth something.

The proc is a 20% reduction in cast time, but it stacks up to 5 times for a total of 100% reduction.
Chris Anthony Jul 25th 2008 1:07AM
To clarify, the talent is confusing because it has 5 ranks and its proc can stack up to 5 times.
At rank 1 (reduces cast time by 4%), if you get 5 critical melee strikes, you reduce cast time by 20% (4% x 5). At rank 2 (reduces cast time by 8%), 5 melee crits reduces cast time by 40%. And so on, up to rank 5 (reduces cast time by 20%), where if you get 5 critical melee strikes, you reduce cast time by 100% (20% x 5).

50% bonus to BoM = For the good times :)
Now if they could increase Beacon's range then we'll have something :O

Unless I'm missing something the spirit talents in the mage tree just got moved. The changes to arcane are good but WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IS WAND SPEC STILL THERE.

To easily identify bad players? Other than that, there's no excuse for it to exist. Sigh.

Leveling?

Lol See!?
Easily identifies bad players.
See how easy it was?
Haha Sorry Driphter.

Hmm well i'm glad they cut down some of the bloat in the retri tree but in most builds its far better to still skip Vindiction as its basically solely useful in PvP and has no affect really in PvE. I'm glad pursuit of justice is only 2 points now.
I can't see the protection tree changes, as i really didn't look to much into it before but just glancing over it, it could really have done with current the bloat, as theres too many talents to grab. They could easily merge a few without it being "over powered" or something.
BoM buff is nice... Currently i always skip it but i might actually have to grab it now as its 50%. Still i like Benediction too much but with the Judgement of Wise talent in wrath, it might not even be needed. Of course, JoWise is solely dependant on judgement damage. Judgements don't work while silenced or help much if you have no mana in the first place (think mana burn). Benediction for pvp, imp BoM for raiding. Idunno.

Yay more Ret buffs, the buff to BoM is gonna be really nice.

I don't want a mage tree "polish", i want cool new shit like the other classes are getting. "Demon Form", "Titan's Grip", "Starfall"... Do any of the mage talent's look as cool as these? Not really.
"Polish" is something that should be provided in patches. Not expansions.

If it makes you feel better, whenever we cast Starfall, there's very little we can do to stop you from /spellsteal /lol.

Take a look at the rogue combat tree. Notice something? Everything but the last two talents are filler.
You're not the only one staying the same, princess.
Karmakin Jul 24th 2008 11:51PM
Actually, there's one more new thing on the Mage tree. The 10-tier talent, Missile Barrage is brand spanking new as well.
At 5 points, it gives Arcane Barrage, Fireball, Frostbolt and Firefrost Bolt a 15% chance to make the next Arcane Missiles come out about about .3s apart (instead of about a second apart.)
It's actually a pretty big little bonus, especially since arcane mages will be throwing out Barrage at every chance I think. You'll see probably what..2-3 procs a minute..that's an additional 7500 or so damage (roughly), so we're talking a DPS increase of about 100 or so.
That's just back of the envelope calculating there, I may be wrong. (Probably am). But that's a massive DPS boost.
Kopykat Jul 24th 2008 11:55PM
The paladin 51 point talent still has that guys goofy face on it =(
Gordon W Jul 24th 2008 11:58PM
Assuming it isn't new (I haven't checked priests before) I'm surprised WoWInsider didn't mention the Guardian Spirit priest spell, that is going to be massively useful for endgame raiding and I'm sure even for limited PVP usage (warr or thief that just won't die when running back the flag in WSG)
Charlie Taylor Jul 25th 2008 12:06AM
thief? Theif?!? I sure hope to god you meant rogue and it was a silly mistake brought on by drugs or sleep deprivation!
Gordon W Jul 25th 2008 12:10AM
[rum and coke] tastes good but gives you short term buff which is replaced by a massive debuff the next day.
makishima Jul 25th 2008 10:03AM
@Charlie At least we can all agree that a Rogue would rather be called a Thief than Rouge.
Noratul Jul 25th 2008 12:06AM
I really hope this isn't the 'Polish' the mage class was promised... The general consensus was arcane looked neat, and although I admit it looks neater than ever before now, fire and frost weren't touched. Frost, and especially fire, were what we were clamoring about.
Here's hoping their 'Polish Pass' is just beginning...
