WotlkWiki starts streaming live video
WotlkWiki, which has been a great source for all kinds of information about Wrath ever since the Friends & Family alpha started, is launching a new attraction, which they're calling WotlkWikiTV. It will consist of live broadcasts from players in the beta, which is pretty cool for those of us who still haven't gotten beta keys. (I maintain hope!)
Their first stream is live right now: Death Knight leveling! They've got a source in beta who will be on "pretty much every day," so if you want to get a good look at what the DK will be like to play, head on over to their streams page and load it up. Personally I'm torn as to whether I want to watch or not – I am really curious about the class, but I'd kinda like to see it for myself before I see someone else doing it. We'll see if if my impatience or my desire to remain spoiler-free wins out.
This is another step in an interesting trend of "WoW TV;" Nihilum has been streaming a few raids for a little while now, and SK-Gaming apparently just did one as well. Does anyone see a new cable network in the future, or is the potential viewership still a little too small?

Its so laggy!

Hey thanks for posting the story!
Some more info:
Yes, we do have more channels and beta streamers coming soon. Keep watching the wiki for more details and news on it.
Yes, it's a bit laggy at times but what can you do? It's an imperfect science, trying to balance upstream and quality. We'll do our best to improve stream quality in the future.

I can barely stand television now. A new network of live in game video would make me completely nuts. Instead of reality shows we would have virtual reality shows? ACK!
Spiraea Jul 25th 2008 6:26PM
It's not a bad idea. With the massive amount of video game marathons that have popped up all over the web in recent weeks, they can be pretty entertaining to watch. Much rather watch someone beating Mario as fast as they can than watch something like "Hogan Knows Best"
Vidi Jul 25th 2008 6:29PM
Ack I completely disagree.
I do not find watching other people play video games entertaining at all. It takes away from the whole point, which is the interactive experience that makes Video Games superior to boring television in the first place.
I realize that others may find it interesting and entertaining but I am not of of those. Id rather play a video game than watch someone else play one.

I'd rather watch some virtual reality drivel then what networks consider reality TV. There is nothing real about any reality TV shows that have that label. Really though I'm excited for WotLK but not so much to spend my time watching some one play it, sometimes I don't wanna play it myself so I'd rather mess around in BC then watch someone grind in WotLK

Pretty cool idea but I'll be missing it as I want to experience any and all new content firsthand instead of going "Hey, I saw that in that video"
Braundo Jul 25th 2008 6:37PM
This is a cool idea. This way, you can see every aspect of playing the game -- usually, gameplay videos are trimmed down to just combat and you don't get to see any of the towns or anything like that.

What's next?
A video of a video of somebody playing a game?
I have no interest whatsoever of watching someone else play WoW.
jbodar Jul 25th 2008 10:08PM
No, it'll be video of the player, but you can't see the game he's playing, you just get his reactions. And he's naked.

Thanks for the hint Elia, hope you will get a spot soon because you write nice articles.

Neat and all but... how exactly is this NOT a violation of their NDA they agreed to?
I've been on some Alphas and Betas where someone was banned for sending an email that described something. I can't believe that live video is an allowable situation...
TotalBiscuit Jul 26th 2008 12:30PM
The NDA has been lifted, you must have missed the memo.

Could you guys run a check on the wotlkwiki.info website? Today was my first time on that website. Today was also my first time getting my WoW account hacked.

Strange, that shouldn't happen... Did you click any other links? Some people go and comment in the video with jpg links which might be keyloggers.
jurandr Jul 29th 2008 5:37PM
I didn't click anything in the chat, actually. But, to get the video to work, I had to enable of lot of things in NoScript. O.o' I generally don't do that, but I really wanted to see what this stuff was like.

@TotalBiscuit:
I did indeed. Thanks for the info :)
