Death Knight Gameplay Video: Unholy PvP
Jadefury continues to deliver with the Death Knight videos. This time, he runs around in one of the Northrend starting zones and preys upon unsuspecting Alliance. It's a bit of a gank video, so fair warning if you're not into that. He uses this level 73 Unholy/Blood build.
Jadefury himself admits, of course, that the first thing he had going for him was the element of surprise -- not only ganking, but people panicking as they had to face down an unfamiliar class. We wouldn't be surprised if PvPing with a Death Knight for the first few months of Wrath is easy if only because of that deer in the headlights phenomenon.
Still, he also showcases some very nice uses of Death Knight PvP skills. My favorite is his use of Death Grip, which looks like it's fast becoming the signature Death Knight move -- not only does it take care of people trying to run away, but he uses it as a spell interrupt in a pinch. There's also some freezing action going on as well with what looks to be Chains of Ice. Of course, having Magic Suppression probably helps a lot as well.
Of course, it's worth noting that he leapt upon people in combat (with some rather sweet looking Nerubians at that, we can't believe we'll be able to solo those, Wrath is going to be so epic), and this is only at level 73, so level 80 organized PvP may look somewhat different. Still, it's yet another good look at Death Knight gameplay to prepare all of us rerollers.

Jadefury is a big douchebag in this video.
He's a 2100+ arena ranked player facing off against T6+ players who have prolly never even won a duel.
This isn't pvp this is just World PvP at it's finest when PvPers who have fine tuned there skills so much that even with a new class they can completely dominate the field.
He needs to go back to the PvE DK videos.

Yeah I agree totally, was more meaning about the flashy effects and sounds ;)

You need to look at the fact that it is showing PvP as a deathknight, not the fact that he's winning. Using your logic he could use any class and win... nothing special.
What's special is it's giving us a taste of what's to come, it's not about how the big bad deathknight is ganking the poor little sunwell/bt raiders. QQMOAR

sunwell/bt raiders with the season 1 mace?
...what?
Einbroch Jul 26th 2008 8:09PM
Yeah. Deathknights look REALLY overpowered and their spells are visually very good looking.
Seriously, the way it's going I don't see why anyone would play anything else. Play a completely unique class that uses tons of new skills and basic devices (runic power, runes, enchanted weapons) or play an old class with animations from vanilla WoW that gets maybe 5 new abilites?
I'm really afraid of the DK population.

I'm pretty sure things will be balanced before the end of the beta. Plus the DK Style may not be for some people. E.g I've read that mages are the most fun to play, but they bore the bejeasus out of me.

This really doesn't at all show how good or bad a DK is in PvP. Maybe if he fought ANYONE that saw him coming it would be different. My 8 year old kid sister on her green geared 70 hunter can do what this guy just did just as successfully.
mrman Aug 11th 2008 8:17AM
8 year old? level 70?
ognob Jul 26th 2008 8:29PM
That's what blizzard want, an Uber class that can defeat all otrhers with ease
We'll all have to roll DKs I guess
Marc Jul 27th 2008 1:45AM
Sorry, rogues have that covered already.
Michael Jul 26th 2008 8:40PM
Wait, the first kill was an alliance shaman, and when he wins it reads "HK Private"? How is that possible he killed a TBC class with a pre-TBC pvp rank?
Daniel Whitcomb Jul 26th 2008 8:41PM
All non-ranked characters, including those made after the Honor system was dropped, are counted as Privates (or Scouts) when killed.

Its beta people. DK abilities will be tone down. If you think DK is the class to end all classes, look at this ret paladin in beta doing a 17k judgement.

Paladins are working as intended
Maal Jul 26th 2008 8:43PM
M'eh, he owned a shaman, gratz? xD
The animation are so cool looking, i hope that someday they'll make a revamp of some key animation for the other class.
Einbroch Jul 26th 2008 9:05PM
This is what I mean. The animations look so cool. Look at some older effects. Fireball? So lame. Stormstrike? Lame. Wrath? Lame. Mortal Strike (lol)? Lame.
They need to up the effects on old abilities.
Palladiamorsdeus Jul 26th 2008 8:49PM
So its apparently a good showing of PvP to run up and gank unsuspecting people? How about you show us a REAL PvP video, instead of a gank fest? This is definitely a failure as a video, and as an article.

Lets find a video of a Ret pally against a DK on beta....
Lur Jul 26th 2008 10:12PM
http://files.filefront.com/RetTakesSkillATMwmv/;11224938;/fileinfo.html
There you go... same DK too... and you see just how astronomically out of control Ret Pally damage is. The SPriest's SWD only hit him for 1100 at the end... But the Pally hit him for 9000 damage in just under 3 seconds without even really engaging in melee with another plate wearer. Then the pally 1-shotted the troll shaman.
In the posted video he catches those people off guard and with 3 less levels... That doesn't mean the DK is overpowered. Anyone caught off guard like that against someone higher level is pretty much going to eat dirt.
