New pets from the Wrath beta
Our favorite Hunter (although BRK comes close), Mania, has had some help from the Wrath beta, and has now updated the great Petopia with all the new pets seen in Northrend so far. No penguins yet, but there are some great new bears in there, and some awesome wolves (is it just me, or are wolves underrated as pets?). Unfortunately, there are no new families up yet, but Mania says updates are coming, and of course Wrath is still in beta anyway. She's also got a Beta pet FAQ up, with everything you'd ever want to know about being a Hunter in the beta, from pet talents to "exotic pets" (the real ones, not the ones BRK dreamed up for us).
It's going to be an exciting time to be a Hunter in Northrend. Pet versatility makes Hunters one of the most interesting classes in the game, and it looks like Blizzard is set to open it up wide in the expansion.

BRK's cool and everything, he was especially cool on last weeks WI podcast, but mania and and bamoo have done more for BM hunters than anyone.

They look nice, but I want to see some new pet families. I'm a turtle fan, but the Sand Turtle looks a tad evil with those red eyes. How much longer before we see some exotic pets? I hope they aren't special models of existing pet families.

I'm most excited about Moths, to be honest. That's about as exotic as I can imagine it. I mean, honestly, you own personal Mothra!

I happen to have a pathological fear of moths so that would also be an effective pvp pet to use against me ;)

"Great new Bears" as in 1 new bear color and 3 reused colors, and that one new bear color, white diseased, is still ugly like all diseased bears.
Ametrine Jul 26th 2008 1:16PM
No new families?
Oh really? Go tame a moth. Right now. Not in the beta.
Can't do it, can you? Guess that makes Moth a new family for the beta, huh?

...is there any reason, ever, to be this much of a jerk?
Ametrine Jul 26th 2008 2:37PM
Sorry... I've kinda had a bad day IRL, and didn't mean to vent on you guys... I regretted what I said the minute I posted. I apologize.

This looks interesting I admit. But as a hunter, I'm still seething over TBC and the total failure of Blizzard to fix this class since level 60...

Eagles look awesome, my favourite new pets so far.
Xirifus Jul 26th 2008 2:23PM
Agree on that, Eagles look awesome and I wanna tame one asap :P

Also, with new talent and abilities we can finally use other pets than boars, raptors and cats. Flying pets are great as they're much faster indoor and outdoor.

You'll be a hunter... FOR AMERICA!
tdom2001 Jul 26th 2008 3:21PM
Is it just me or does the "exotic" taming ability seem a bit weak for a 51 point talent? I mean, they've already stated that it won't be "uber"...it'll be just like the other pets with somewhat different abilities.
Catastrophe Jul 27th 2008 6:57AM
I think you missing the real point of the 51 point talent, taming exotic's is just the tasty side dish, the real reason for this ability is the 5 extra pet talent points which open up unique skills they otherwise would'nt be able to access with the normal 16 pet talent points

Errr to quote some of the hunter message boards, Moar Boars!
Which looks exciting because I was very disappointed that all 61+ "Boars" were demons.
which promptly made me with that my warlock could capture and KEEP freerange demons instead of it being temporary. I learned that what we now know as the Lich king expansion, was gonna be back in azeroth, but I had no hope till today. I just didn't enjoy Grinding up an "undead" skinned boar from the Plaguelands, For Fun.

The eagle pets give me more than enough reason to raise my hunter to 80
Zakk Jul 26th 2008 4:36PM
I kinda hate playing my Hunter -- which was my first to 70 -- but seeing these eagles might get me to level just enough to go tame one. I might even get interested in the class again.

WOTLK seems to bring interesting news for hunters. Pets will be *MUCH more* than simple puppets with some poor abilities (as they are now in WoW). I love playing hunters, even now that people complain about them.
