Token system discovered
They're getting serious about easing inventory headaches in Wrath of the Lich King. Recently we heard all about the new storage system for mounts and vanity pets (you'll learn them as spells; they will not occupy space in your bags). Shortly thereafter it was hinted that tokens (such as Badges of Justice and Battleground marks) would face a similar treatment.
An enterprising and clever beta participant by the name of Xabora has discovered what form this treatment will take, by typing /tokens and hitting return. This is reminiscent of the way Achievements were first discovered to be in WoW, which was by someone in the alpha typing /achievements. Yay slash commands! Anyway, it looks like the new system will track all your tokens, as well as your honor points and arena points, with categories for each phase of the game (Classic, BC, Wrath), PvP, Holidays, Raid, Miscellaneous, and Unused.
I'm not entirely sure why there's a category for "unused" tokens, or why Raid is separate from Classic/BC/Wrath – are they planning on putting tier tokens into this system? Will raids in Wrath award different tokens than heroics? No telling just yet, I guess. But it's nice to know that even more bag spaces will be freed, and we won't have any more issues from having left our tokens in the bank.

This system looks like a great way to keep everything separated out and visible I especially like that they are supporting holiday tokens since they can be confusing to track.

Perhaps unused tokens for events long gone. Are commendations still valid?

Hopefully they will also give Shamans some similar treatment regarding the 4 elemental totems one has to keep in the backpacks in order to use totems.
Ametrine Jul 27th 2008 6:26PM
Actually, I don't really se that happening, as they are a necessary part of that class' playstyle mechanics, akin to a Warlock's soulshards or the reagents used by Druids for healing and Mages for portals.
At least Shamans don't have to buy stuff to use their spells, unlike the Druids and Mages.

Yeah, try a bag of arrows too. :)
ryno106 Jul 27th 2008 11:35PM
yeah, you shouldn't ask for that again unless you want to have to explain your argument to every druid, mage, warlock, and hunter about why your 4 totems are a big deal compared to the bags of things necessary to play other classes. Soul Shards ftl.

Even rogues carry around as much as shaman, since rogues don't get to just cast the temporary weapon effects like shaman do...
Ankh, 4 totems, Fish Oil, Fish Scales for a total of 7 shaman items.
Thieve's Tools, Flash Powder, five kinds of poison, which is also 7. There's also the rogue specific energy-returners (Thistle Tea), but I don't care to argue about whether they're the same thing as mana potions even though they're only for one class and on a different timer than health potions, so I'd say it's even.
That said, Warlocks and Hunters get all the complaining rights here.
Thrashnak Jul 28th 2008 4:09PM
@Ametrine, Shaman buy ankh's that only stack to 10 (used to only be 5), and they have to farm up regents for other spells, albeit less commonly used spells (and fortunately, they drop from the Naga you have to kill in the SSO dailies). Warlocks and Hunters are the only ones who really get to complain. Why someone would include mages, I have no idea. Shaman and Druids usually have extra gear sets (healing and DPS) in addition to their reagents, etc. Mages have, what, three reagents?
makishima Jul 28th 2008 5:49PM
@Thrashnak You also forget the item slots mages need for each of their mana gems, of which there are 5
makishima Jul 28th 2008 5:50PM
Well ok, you prolly wont be carrying around the lowest 2 once your 70, but still that's another 2 or 3 items for mages.
Reinard Jul 27th 2008 6:25PM
I'm gonna take a guess and say the "unused" category will be similar to the "inactive" category on your reputation sheet. You can probably put things you likely won't be using anymore in it...like, for example, the Classic and Burning Crusade tokens, when the expansion comes out. Or the Holiday ones when there's no holidays happening. PVP if you don't PVP, Raid if you don't raid.
I could be wrong, it's just a guess :P
Gurluas Jul 27th 2008 6:27PM
As for raid i believe they are Tier tokens, while BC are Badges of Justice forexample.

I'm logged into beta right now, and neither /token or /tokens seems to work o.O so I wonder what version of it he's using...
regnide Jul 27th 2008 7:09PM
\token worked for me. It doesnt display anymore then what is displayed in that screenshot. None of the tabs do anything but change the - to a + when clicked on.

Also, this system rules out that BoJ's could be transferred between characters on the same account.
West Jul 27th 2008 8:36PM
does it? this could be a shared total for all your characters of that faction/server.

Actualy, Shaman do use reagents:
Ankh: Reincarnation
Shiny Scales: Water Breathing
Fish Oil: Water Walking
Jordrah Jul 27th 2008 7:31PM
ah yes, i think my shaman has like 4 stacks of fish oil in her bags just because i cast it any and everytime i have to go through water.
im very excited that shifting wont cancel water walking in wrath

I thought it was already confirmed that in Wrath they will have different levels of Badges.
E.g. Kara Badges would give access to gear from X vender, ZA badges from Y, BT from Z, etc.
Dave Jul 27th 2008 7:53PM
Pretty sure there are going to be different badges for different raids.
Whether the loot you get from the badges is going to work like (20) Tier 7 badges = (10) Tier 8 = (5) Tier 9 in terms of cashing them in or not, that remains to be seen. I think badges should be an alternate form of getting gear at your current level, not just gearing up in general. It doesn't seem too right that someone can do nothing but run Kara and end up with near T6 quality gear. Same goes for T6 geared raiders plowing through kara and all you can find any more on a lot of servers are "badge run" groups where if you're not in T5+, you're not going to run Kara so it's really really difficult to gear up an alt without a big enough guild that still wants to run the thing.
