Barbershops live in Wrath Beta

It's a quirky design and it makes me wonder why only Goblins know how to cut hair throughout all of Azeroth. It was fun to tinker around with, but I became bored pretty fast. The new hairstyles aren't in, so right now it's almost like staring at the character creation screen but a little bigger and there's gold involved. It will be much more fun on the live realms I'm sure, because I am a roleplayer and doing this kind of thing once in awhile should be pretty fun. There's just very little reason to play with it for a long time on the beta realms, I don't much care what my character's hair is like there. For all I care, it could be made of snakes. Hmm, that would be pretty awesome, actually...
Well, I did experiment a little. I decided my Human Priest grew her hair longer since I rolled her in the first days of WoW's launch, so I picked a longer hairstyle, purchased it, then decided I was bored and wandered off. Until I came back to take screenshots for you all, of course. All in all... yeah, boring until the new hairstyles are in or I'm in a spot to care. Bummer.

Barber shops are an RP support tool, basically. You go in, change your hair, and come out. The idea of spending any time there beyond what it takes to do that is pretty silly, so its no wonder you'd get bored fast.
This was never meant to be content that takes up your time.

My point was that there's really nothing there to be excited about yet. No new hairstyles, no nothing. There's really no discovery right now. Obviously it isn't something you're supposed to spend hours doing, but its current incarnation you're pretty much done with it by the time you sit down.
At least when the new hairstyles go in you can spend a few minutes giggling at the fauxhawks or something.
I definitely expect it to get a little more fun. Right now it's just a beginning, certainly not a completed work.

Or they could have a Felguard with a pair of blood-encrusted Pruning Shears, and call him "The Demon Barber of Leet Street."

Think I'll pass on that evil looking undead dude having sharp objects around my head...
Glad to see we can change piercings and such. I didn't notice until like level 40 that I had a pierced ear and then it bugged the hell out of me. Guess I'm sort of alright with it now, but it would be nice to change. It doesn't help that you can't zoom in the camera on your character when creating it. Especially with the bad angle you view trolls at.
Illirien Jul 29th 2008 11:57AM
Yep, trolls and orcs both, really. I'm definitely looking forward to tweaking a few things.
Spiraea Jul 29th 2008 1:26PM
There really should be an option for zooming in on the character creation screen. I've created characters that I liked there but when I get into the game, bug me on how they look.
Hoggersbud Jul 29th 2008 2:12PM
Best solution I've found for that problem is WOW Model viewer, which does let you zoom in and all. Can be tricky being sure you got the right settings when making your character, but it can be done.
I'm hoping there will be a tanning booth myself.

That's how they get you. You come in for a shave and trim, and the next thing you know, the chair eats half of your body.
Friggin' Goblins.

I'm liking your write ups Alex, any chance we'll hear you on the podcast, or see you anywhere else on the network? Regardless keep up the good work. Not too much fluff, just perfect little morsels of beta goodness.
Alex Ziebart Jul 29th 2008 11:10AM
I did the show once with what turned out to be some bad equipment, and it turned into a staticy mess. Eventually I'll pick up a new mic and such and give it another shot for sure.
As for seeing me elsewhere on the network, maybe, maybe not!
Jasperwind Jul 29th 2008 10:53AM
How much does it cost?
crsh Jul 29th 2008 11:22AM
That's what I'd like to know as well.
Dotixi Jul 29th 2008 11:28AM
Judging by the image gallery making the hairstyle, color and markings changes cost over 12g...or that's what it looked like all blurry and such.
dart Jul 29th 2008 12:54PM
There is a Hi-Res Button. Not sure why it'd be blurry.
Verit Jul 29th 2008 1:16PM
Its based on what you pick and how many things you change.

Ten bucks says the barbers in Darnassus and Silvermoon City will be flamboyant and effeminate.
James Pritchard Jul 29th 2008 11:31AM
So sometimes the text over your head says "hair style #number" and sometimes "facial style #number". Does this mean you can change other aspects of your look like your actual face?
