Changes in the WotLK Beta patch notes for Build #8681 [UPDATED]
There's a new Beta build out on the testing servers tonight, numbered at 8681. The patch notes themselves only have two changes from the other patch notes in them. However there are a ton of new glyphs which are going to be useable via inscriptions, and a lot of undocumented patch changes. The two main changes have to do with the calendar system and the mount / vanity pet interface. You can take a look after the break for the exact text, and also keep an eye out on WoW Insider for the latest on both of these new interfaces.
One interesting thing to note: Elizabeth Harper is reporting that the mount interface isn't working. If you have a mount in your inventory, you cannot successful "train" it into your spell book, which means you can't cast or use it. This means those in the beta can't mount unless they already have their mount as a spell. An interesting tid bit that we'll keep you updated on.
Updated July 29th, 2008 at 5:35 p.m. EDT: Elizabeth Harper has reported that the mounts are now fixed in the beta. Mount up!
New Calendar feature: Players will be able to access the new Calendar feature by clicking on the new icon located in the top right corner of their mini map. The calendar will track in game events, allow raid scheduling, and more.
New Vanity Pet and Mount changes: Players will now be able to access their non-combat pets and mounts by clicking on the pets tab in the Character Info panel. These pets and mounts will be now learnable much like spells or abilities. Once a vanity pet or mount is learned, the icon will disappear from within a player's inventory and reappear in the appropriate tab under the pet tab under Character Info. Say goodbye to your vanity pets and mounts taking up bag and bank slots!

Excellent! Glad to see that they will not take up Spell-book slots!

Agreed. I was kinda worried they just throw them all in the general tab. Would be an absolute mess.

Lol, shit x| That sucks. Maybe they don't have enough people testing DKs, so it's either you play your DK or you walk like a snail! I love me a good ultimatum ; )

I'm wondering at the difference between a "pet" and a "companion". Does this mean that hunters will be able to switch pets on the fly without having to visit a stable master?

Non combat pets were christened companions a few patches ago. Pets refers to any pet used in combat which includes hunter pets, warlock demons, the mage's frost elemental, and a priest's shadowfiend.

and DK pets.

The really cool aspect of this is you will be able to have every single pet that you have with you every where you go.

Flip'n F'n awesome in the A!

Update: castable mounts - Warlocks and (presumably) Pallies - still work. Though interestingly, they _don't_ cost mana anymore.
Also, i am 100% certain they have enough people testing death knights...there are like, 90 of em on at any given time :)
Solnova Jul 29th 2008 2:13AM
Additionally, death knights get their own special "Skeletal Griffon" at 70. 950 gold, and it "scales" to your skill - as in, it will look the same but be an epic or regular flier depending what level skill you have.
Also, Ironforge is now very, very dark...
Procris Jul 29th 2008 2:15AM
Not to mention the Deathknights Charger is also a spell "summon" similar to the paladins/warlocks, no?
Zarkharaan Jul 29th 2008 2:16AM
So's a lot of places. Some sort of glitch. Undercity, Ebon Hold are bugged.
By the way, DKs have a new login background (regardless of race) and glowing blue eyes (also regardless). Yay, some more uniqueness at least.

It's actually 8681, btw. hehe.

8634 was the previous patch, lastest is 8681

i notice in this screenshot that there are 3 tabs. pet, companion and mount. now, "vanity pets" are the companions. so does the "pet" tab contain hunter pets? does this mean we can do away with stable masters? is there perhaps a vast number of slots in this tab? unlimited hunter pets ftw? or, at least, more than 3?
Maliece Jul 29th 2008 3:08AM
Just a quick comment for clarification, hunters and locks have always had the pet tab if they have an active pet out. It is nothing new.
Dawkins Jul 29th 2008 8:29AM
Yeah, but it is a pet tab on the spell book. This is a pet tab on the character screen.
Orbit Jul 29th 2008 3:56AM
This patch messed the beta up so bad. You now have to buy a new mount because the mounts you have don't work. And Ironforge is dark inside.

Looks like the Mage talents have gotten a polishing. Arcane is looking as great as ever, and Fiery Payback now has Mages under 35% HP casting 1.5 second Pyroblasts.
Pyroblast. On a GCD-length cast. SPAMMABLE.
Hilarious!

"Rogue energy mechanics have now been changed, they now return energy every 1/10th of a second instead of 20 every 2, this change makes energy generation more fluid."
Found this from MMO-Champion. I'm a happy rogue now.
zappo Jul 29th 2008 8:38AM
While that's really cool, I have to say I'm going to miss energy watch. I always felt like it gave my rogue a pulse of sorts.
