Personal Tabards may be a possibility in Wrath

A lot of us have probably had this problem before: We join a guild, and we like it. It has the right combination of people we like (or can tolerate), interests we share, and or what have you, and we're doing fine. Unfortunately, there is the problem. The tabard sucks. That whole green crying bear on pink background thing is just so tacky, and does not go well with any of our stuff.
Sure, you can replace it with one of the factional tabards, in theory, but not until 70, and not until you grind exalted, and most of those tabards don't look much better anyway. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just go design your own personal tabard at your local town hall instead?
That may be coming. In a thread by Beta tester Talid, Tigole said that the idea of personal tabards was actually pretty cool, and that he'd look into it. Yeah, admittedly, that means personal tabards could be in before Wrath goes live, or it means they could be a year off, or they could still discard the whole thing.
Still, it often seems to this WoW Insider staff member that getting Blizzard to agree to any major type of personal character customization is like pulling teeth, so seeing Tigole act favorably toward this is pretty exciting. It'd be a great gold sink or achievement reward for Wrath.

I like the SSO tabard. It is the unofficial tabard of the guild considering the number of guildies who wear it.
Then there is my alts guild tabard. Two golden mugs of beer on a black background. What is there not to love in that one? :D

"I like me beer like I like me women: dark an' bitter."

Oh, and the Privates Tabard is available as early as level 20 for 3 WSG and 3 AB marks.

In SM Armory, you can get a pretty sweet tabard from the last guy.

I would like for ashtounge deathsworn/scale of the sands to have a tabard as it is one of the few BC reputations to not have a tabard, it would be cool for to have a tabard so we can show and flex our epeen who here supports this message? currently these 2 reps offer @ exalted ONLY a trinket witch is pretty useless for most classes, and scale of the sands only offers you a ring @ exalted after you have the vashj/kael vials i say we need a cool looking tabard for these 2 fractions please

What's a "trinket witch?" sounds scary ;)

"Sure, you can replace it with one of the factional tabards, in theory, but not until 70..."
Or the PVP tabards, or the Tabard of the Hand (which is admittedly Draenei-only), or the Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade...

or the Blood Knight Tabard

i thought the whole point of a tabard was that you and your guildmates looked the SAME. there was a common theme among all of its members. it got much worse when everyone got a different faction tabard or TCG tabard... why not just put stats on the tabard slot, and let people wear unique fruity capes instead?
Blaubard Jul 29th 2008 8:10PM
Completely agree, tabards are only interesting when they affirm your commitment to a guild. who cares if you grind for weeks and get some ill-designed rep tabard?
ThorinII Jul 30th 2008 10:16AM
Really? I only ever wear a tabard when I have ugly gear and want to hide it as best I can. :0)
Houldlum Jul 29th 2008 7:49PM
I'd be happy to be able to get a tabard with the Horde crest on it.

My guild has a great tabard that I have only heard praise for. It would lower the value of my tabard design choice if anyone could simply make their own within my guild.
Eisengel Jul 29th 2008 8:14PM
/facepalm
The point of a tabard is to display and announce your membership in a group, guild, or faction or to display a momentous achievement (although 'I spent money on TCG cards' doesn't seem so momentous to me...). Making an individual tabard in effect is the opposite of what tabards are for...
Want an individual tabard? Try to get the Battle Tabard of the Defilers:

I can almost guarantee you can count the number of people on your server with that on 2 hands or less these days.
Tenchan Jul 30th 2008 4:04AM
I know the thought is absurd, but ... only because you can make your personal tabard, the guild and achievement tabards do not stop existing. You can still display your commitment or achievement proudly, if you so wish. Shocker, innit?
SaintStryfe Jul 29th 2008 8:31PM
my problem: Personal tabards would be black.
THis is also why I don't want Armor Dyes - everyone would run around in Black Armor.
