Wrath Money Sink Found: Dalaran teleport rings for 8000 gold

Here's a brand new find fresh from the Kirin Tor capital of Dalaran on the Wrath Beta servers. We've been wondering for a while what type of money sinks Blizzard might implement in wrath, and we've found one, to the tune of 8000 gold coins: A set of melee and caster rings that not only deliver some pretty sweet stats, but also have a free teleport to Dalaran on use to the tune of an hour cooldown.
The rings are sold by Tiffany Cartier, the Jewelcrafting supply vendor in Dalaran, who hangs out next to the jewelcrafting trainer. They come in both melee and caster versions, and seem to have pretty solid stats. Still, the main draw is the teleport, and it seems very likely that it will be on a separate cooldown from the Hearthstone. That means that for a paltry sum, you too can feel somewhat like a Mage once an hour.
It's also worth noting that Tiffany herself is on the Kirin Tor faction. That means that if you care to do a bit of grinding before you spend your dough, you'll be able to haggle the price down to 6400 gold -- still far above the price of Burning Crusade's major money sink.
This is certainly a useful and clever way for Blizzard to siphon money out of the economy once we all hit 80 and start doing all our Argent Crusade dailies, and it makes me sort of glad I didn't blow all my money on the Gigantique bag craze. Of course, now I need to figure out where I'm going to find the gold to buy one for all my alts.
Thanks to Kurai for the tip, and Alex for heading to Dalaran for screenshots.

This might be A money sink but I doubt this will be THE money sink of WotLK. If Dalaran is going to become the new Shattrath then I'll already have my hearth set there, in which case this port won't be really useful. And if Dalaran isn't the new Shattrath then I probably won't be going there much, in which case this port won't be really useful.
And if this is going to be the only significant money sink of WotLK then I predict I'll be running around with heavy pockets for a long time.

I'd like to assume that something more appropriate than a ring with a port will be the big gold sink. I'm sure once the majority of testers see what their gold sink will be, Blizz will be bombarded with feedback to change it. The stats ARE nice, but I'm sure they'll be better that aren't half the grind to achieve.

JOKES ON BLIZZARD. I have more than 10K in the bank right now and then some. Insta epics for mes! Hoorays!

About it being on a seperate cooldown. It might not the case. Remember the ruby slippers? I remember those burned your hearth cooldown. Did they ever change that?

Those also said, "return to home location", which is the same as a hearthstone.
These better damn well be on a seperate CD however, or the gold sink isnt worth it.

The caster ring stats are no good for healers... and there's no way I'm paying 8g for a hearthstone. :) Still, I like the concept, just not the price. Maybe they'll do this as a rep reward for other factions?
Balius Jul 29th 2008 6:46AM
Remember that they're changing the stat system to a universal spell power. That's not spell-damage.

I think few people realize the beauty of teleports.
Now having a priest main, orginally a mage, i will definatley be buying this.
I mean, having my hearth set in gadget, and having the rest of the ports up, is just awsome.

8k for a teleport?
... or i could, like, spend less than 1k, get engineering up and have TWO teleports, one to winterspring and one to area 52. with surely another northrend one inbound...
NeSuKuN Jul 29th 2008 7:29AM
Good luck on leveling engineering with 1k
annerjb Jul 29th 2008 5:29PM
i spended 1k of gold levelling engineering and thats before they add the new engineering recipes to get the last 5 points on easy mode. so you dont have to go farm the field repair bot.
Breck Jul 29th 2008 2:53PM
Depends on your realm economy and if you're also a miner. When I leveled engineering I only paid out about 500g and mined, at most, 500g worth of mats. So yeah, 1k will do it if ore is cheap on your realm.

Remember when getting an epic land mount was a lot of money? Remember how incredible the flying, let alone epic flier, seemed with that mindset?
Yeah, I'm sure 8000G is a lot, but with rep and an increased ability to make money, I'm sure it won't seem as bad as it looks.
My question is, what's so great about Dalaran that I'll want to go back there so often? Northrend is just a boat or Zeppelin ride from a major old world city, after all. It's not like Shattrath, where the other entrance to Outland is in the middle of nowhere...
Fizzl Jul 29th 2008 6:48AM
Am I right in thinking that as a mage I will get a teleport: Dalaran spell anyway? :)

I play a shaman so I can already hearth every 15 minutes without using my hearth stone CD.
looks like I won't be falling for this money sink :)
Roxton Jul 29th 2008 8:01AM
I'm a mage so I can already jump to any major city I like with no cooldown, and take my friends with me. Looks like I won't be falling for this money sink.

The flying skill for WOTLK is free. It's a quest reward. So no 25K gold sink for flying
Michael Jul 29th 2008 6:49AM
Here's how to get people to buy them:
Step 1) Make buying them an ACHIEVMENT!
Step 2) ???
Step 3) Profit!
Mordenaar Jul 29th 2008 6:50AM
I will continue to use ghetto hearths when my stone is on cooldown.
