Warcraft Characters for the iPhone
Finally, we've got a WoW app for the iPhone, but it's not quite what we'd expected. Apparently tired of waiting for Blizzard to release an official app, Rudi has taken things into his own hands and released Characters for the iPhone, a slim little app that lets you pull up your characters (or anyone elses), and browse through their Armory stats.I installed the app (it's free), and took a look at it -- unfortunately it's not very robust, as there's no way to see gear (unlike Omen of Clarity's iArmory web app), but it does run great and look shiny. Upon running the app, you can just punch in your character's info (or anyone else's -- all you need is a name and realm), and it'll get added to your list. Choosing one sends you to screens where you can see information about professions and talents, ability stats, or combat stats.
And that's pretty much it -- more is planned, including reputation, talents, and items panes. EU and China support should be up in a few days (right now, it only works on US characters, and of course it depends on the Armory being up to update). Very nice for a first try, but we still can't wait until we see something a little more in-depth, or, dare we ask whoever's working in Blizzard's mobile division, even official.
Note: This writeup is current as of version 1.0. Later versions of the app will likely include added functionality.
Update: Good news from OOC: he and Rudi are planning to work together on the Characters app, which means it should soon have all the functionality of the iArmory web application, and then some. Saved characters? Character compare? Guild progression and be.imba integration? Yes please!

Lol.
"Hi, I am 'luvs2troll' and as a modern forum troll I have to keep informed about the latest armory stats to use as a foundation for my arguments. That's why I use the armory app on my iPhone."

I wish I still had my iPhone.. Unfortunately I dropped it and the screen shattered.
I wish there was an app like this for the WM6 phones out there. (Yes, I switched back.)

Crashes when you try to add a character from a realm with 2 names (ex: Cenarion Circle). It works well for characters on realms with 1 name.

Next version will include support for other regions (EU, TW, etc) and realms with spaces or punctuation.

Constantly crashes when I try to add a toon. Did they test realm names with ' such as Blade's Edge, wondering if that's the problem or not. Need to test other realms I guess.

Also tried: Bladesedge with no luck.

@9 & @10: If your realm name has multiple words (i.e. Moon Guard or Cenarion Circle) use a "+" symbol in place of any spaces: Moon+Guard, Cenarion+Circle. That's worked for me.
DrDiesel Jul 31st 2008 4:39PM
@12 any ideas on apostrophes?
Blade's Edge
tried blades+edge and no luck, no character found.
Tuula Aug 1st 2008 10:49AM
@13: Apostrophes SHOULD work. I just looked up one of my old characters on Kael'thas and the apostrophe caused no problems. I'm thinking Blade's Edge would be:
Blade's+Edge
Give it a try and see how it works.

What the dev should really do to avoid this confusion over realm names is provide a drop-down menu for users to choose their realm instead of a text field. The list of current realms is even available live from http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus/status.xml; just parse it into a list much the same way as they parse the character sheet XML for their per-character display...
DrDiesel Jul 31st 2008 4:42PM
Exactly! Was going to suggest the same thing.

Are there any programs like this for either palm or psp?Hopefully one with equipment as well.

Now when is someone going to write me an auction-house management app so I can sell those motes without logging in? WowBay!

Blade's+edge worked
