As a mage, I don't like this change. Just like how I didn't like the change where they added damage to +healing gear.
Now every healer is going to get a decent amount of spell damage ontop of their already great healing capabilities. What do I get? I already play a class that can be equally DPS'd by pretty much every other class in the game as long as they are specc'd for it. Now I have to content with the fact that healers, although they won't be doing as much damage as me, will still be able to do decent DPS.
What do I get to compensate for the fact that hybrids are getting more and more powerful?

This is working as intended. I think it's an effort to stop healers from re-rolling. I am sorry you think you should have a monopoly on damage.

Fine then here's how we fix this. Give me healing spells.
If I can't have a monopoly on damage, then you can't have a monopoly on healing.
Now everything is even stevens.

I understand your frustration. This game has never been balanced or fair in any way. I just believe that Blizzard is making hybrids stronger on purpose. They see too many people re-rolling dps and the only solution is to make us more powerful. I was a raid healer for a long time. It was very stressful while we were learning new fights and boring as hell once the fights were on farm. I think it is my turn to be able to knock some bodies down. I know that makes you sad, but from where I sit DPS classes have had the most fun since launch. I am glad to see these changes.

From one mage to another, please stop. Spell damage to healing gear didn't make hybrids able to out DPS us, it just made them able to solo. Boo hoo for us, really, I mean allowing them to do dailies without an escort was such a huge blow to mages.
We're getting our own fixes and they thankfully have little to do with how our healers and hybrids are soloing out.

What we really need (I say this as a healer and an officer) is encounters not designed for 7 healers and 2 tanks....
I'd like to dps every now and then (and the new gear will let me do that... rather than slowly grinding out a decent shadow set just to be able to do my dailies alone) but fact of the matter is that more than a quarter of your raiders need to be healers, and there are just not that many people that prefer to heal full time. There is more demand than supply of healers for serious raid guilds, and this is an issue that needs to be addressed.
5 man encounters were designed to be healable by 1 person, and that damage incoming/heals outgoing ratio seems better to me.
