MMOART stands up to cancer
Our friends at MMOART (they make custom art of characters from MMOs, including World of Warcraft) recently "rebooted" their service and website, and in the process announced that from here on out, they're donating a percentage of all proceeds to the Stand Up To Cancer charity. They don't say just how much they're donating, but they do say that the disease has been a problem among their family, and they're taking a stand to fight back.We know the studio's owner has had health problems of his own, but those aren't related to cancer, this is just something they're doing to commit to a charity for others. So now you can get some great looking art of your characters, and help out a worthy charity as well.

While giving to a charity isn't a bad thing, this sounds like it's mostly just a marketing tactic to gain more customers.
Jomaro and his wife could just as easily give to charity without having to publicize it. What they do with their hard-earned cash is their business. But they could just as well say "A percentage of all profits will go to this months grocery bill."

While I'm usually just as cynical as the next person, it does seem pretty extreme of accusing them of just doing this as a marketing tactic. As it mentions, cancer seems to be a family problem, so there is some background for their choice. Also, while they could do it anonymously, being a business its best to show that you're giving back. Otherwise cynical people would complain about how they don't do anything charitable.

I agree with Yeah. Especially since the havn't announced how much they're givng.

Most people donating to charity announce it. I mean, the more customers they get, the more money the charity gets. No reason to keep quiet about it and make people think you're a coldhearted corporation when you're really giving bunnies to kids.

So what if they publicize for marketing tactics? Their business will get more customers, which means more money for charity. EVERYONE IS HAPPY.
JEEZ, why do you ppl always complicate things @_@??

Hmm... I've always been wondering how much of McDonald's children-business is really based on love for fellow humans and how much of it is pure marketing.

Does anyone know, ballpark, what they charge for a color rendering of a character? It wasn't obvious to me from their site, the bit I poked around, at least.

You people really are too cynical for your own good.
They're a business (and not a big one) that's giving a little bit back, and giving it to a good cause. What's wrong with that?

Hey all and thanks for responding to the post! The reason why we decided to donate to this charity is to raise awareness and to contribute to the search for a cure. Cancer has ravaged my family and the family of so many others. My mother has been fighting cancer for the last 10 years. I lost my sister to cancer last year, and my wife lost her uncle a few years ago. I just felt like I had to do something.
This is not a marketing ploy. We are actually not accepting new orders as we are currently working down a hefty queue. That is why DeadbyNoon couldn’t find our pricelist or order information.
I see some people are curious of the amount we are giving. We are donating 5% of everything we bring in, which might not seem like much but I assure you it will add up. We are also planning to have special events like a “Stand up to Cancer Sketch Day” in which people will be asked to donate what they can afford for a convention style sketch. I will then donate 100% of that event’s proceeds to the SU2C Charity.
