Wrath's Fetch Ball lets you play with your pets
This is hardly going to be one of the most amazing items in Wrath to those who clamor for epics and full dungeon sets, but for those of us who like the flavor that those cute little noncombat pets add, the Fetch Ball is a dream come true. The first thing you can see in this beta video is the pet and mount interface (which not only will let you choose pets or mounts, but also see a preview of each before you summon them), and the second thing you can see is, well, let's just say that Blizzard finally gave the noncombat pets something to do. And it's easy to get -- you can pick it up, along with a few other pet-related objects, from the NPC vendor named after the founder of the Warcraft Pets site.
Incredibly cute, and we're so glad to finally see some life from the little guys who've been following us around all this time. And who knows what else this will open the door to -- today, the noncombat pets can fetch, tomorrow they can pick up our loot, play dead or even go to a minigame battle? Maybe the whole "noncombat" term isn't quite their style anymore.

Haha, very cute, really fun feature here. Just another cool thing wrath will offer. And maybe they could get in more ideas to o with the pets ;p

That is adorable.

I love this! What a fun addition! Yay for fluff!

They should make the pets trippable. Meaning you can park you pet and if someone runs over them the person falls.
Baluki Aug 4th 2008 2:18PM
That's great. I wonder if the balls will be fetchable by other peoples' pets.
Also, they should have certain pets retrieve the ball certain ways. Sleepy Willy could use an eye beam to retrieve the ball, instead of going to get it himself. The Rocket Bot could shoot a rocket at the ball and blow it up in mid-air (I sure hope they're cheap). Flying pets could swoop up and grab it in midair. Mini-Diablo and Mini-Tyrael could just ignore the ball, because playing fetch is beneath them.

Unless I can play fetch with that new massive tamable devilsaur, I'm not interested.
Also, I demand that instead of a ball, I throw gnomes for it to retrieve.

That was my initial thought,
"Why does it only work for vanity pets? I want to make my devilsaur fetch!"
Also, fetching for those pets would be pretty funny for other classes. Succubus, Water Elemental... Death Knight's Ghoul...

Hah! Fetch, Diablo! Roll over! Aaaargh!
tehvoid Aug 4th 2008 2:26PM
Great fun addition!
That can be used in raids to give directions too! ;)
Too bad that players still don't have a skill/spell to make their compet pet go to a exact place directly (without Eye of the beast).

DOES IT work on orphans?
William Aug 4th 2008 2:41PM
Wow... just wow... that's all i can say.
Frank Aug 4th 2008 3:02PM
holy crap, i love this so much. :))

Been suggesting for years that non-combat pets be able to act as limited shop bots. You'd be able to send your pet to retrieve mail, buy a stack of items, or refresh a bid at the AH. It would have a long cool down, of course. With vanity pets being a built-in feature, there's no excuse for players not to always have access to one.
Arras Aug 4th 2008 3:14PM
that is very cool...wonder if that would work with hunter/warlock pets as well?
Tuhljin Aug 4th 2008 4:28PM
I should hope the demons warlocks summon have more self-respect than that!

What other pet items will Breanni have (also her comments at the bottom of her pages for each pet are awesome!)
Spiraea Aug 4th 2008 6:32PM
All that's known so far (and this is from Breanni) is the Fetch Ball seen here and a Rope Pet Leash which does as you'd think. Attaches a line between you and your pet, I would really love to see this action too.
I've been collecting pets mainly as of recently (have 35 thus far :)) and stuff like this makes me just want to collect more and more and more!

What I'd like to see is pets interacting with each other. For instance a cat trying to hop up at a parrot, or the smaller ones on the ground chase each other around sometimes. It would give you another incentive to have them out just to see if you bump into someone else with a non combat pet out just to see what they'll do.

awwww...

"even go to a minigame battle"??
How about: "I choose you! Pikachu!!!"
