Blizzard shows off Recruit-a-Friend benefits: Zhevra mount, summoning, triple experience

There's a new splash screen on the WoW homepage, but instead of hinting at a new game, it is instead showing off Blizzard's new Recruit-a-Friend benefits. Looks like they found a place for that Zhevra mount we heard about a while back -- whenever you recruit a friend into the game (by convincing them to create an account with your name as a reference and having them pay for at least two months of game time), you can choose one of your characters to nab a Zhevra mount. Additionally, you can summon referred friends to your character, and when questing together, you can pick up triple experience until level 60, for both quests and monsters that you kill together.
More details on Blizzard's support page. Just yesterday, we heard Mike Morhaime saying Blizzard was aiming to bring tons of people into the game this holiday season, and it looks like the recruiting drive has started.

i want to know if this is retroactive. i've brought several friends into the game and i'd really like to be able to teleport to them (or them to me) and get triple experience with them.
Seriously though, damn blizzard, trying to get everyone to endgame before they learn thier class?
BitterCupOJoe Aug 6th 2008 10:55AM
Yes, because the class mechanics are soooo difficult in this game. Seriously, if you haven't figured out what your new spell every other level does and how it interacts with your other spells within a half hour of getting it, the other 1-2 hours of filler time spent leveling probably aren't going to help.
Besides, how many people do you know that raid without cracking a book (or webpage, whatever) on how their class plays in a raid? Mostly, it's the bad ones that wouldn't learn on their own anyways.

Hmm... I wonder if my friend would play for 2 months if I bought him the play time?

I wish the support site would load, I'd really like to know how this affects people that you have recently referred. My wife and my brother were both referred by me earlier this year, and I was given a free month of gametime for each of them, but will I need to find another friend in order to get the mount?
joggoms Aug 5th 2008 5:04PM
I've referred a total of 3 people, 1 in the last few months. It would be nice if this was retro-active, but I wouldn't expect that from Blizzard.

Maybe I missed something, but when I read the FAQ about the new "recruit-a-friend" on Blizzard's site, it sounded as though the recruitee gets a Zhevra mount and not the veteran player.

From the Recruit-a-Friend site:
"If your friend/family member pays for two full months of subscription time, you'll receive an exclusive in-game zhevra mount!"
Tabi Aug 5th 2008 4:55PM
"For every two levels the new player earns, the new player can grant one free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran player."
That's pretty nice :)

I always wanted to re-roll with friends on a new server to get to end-game.
Now if we purchase 60-day cards, we can chain the benefits infinitely to our main/alt accounts! :D
Me (main account) -> Me (alt account) -> Friend (main account) -> Friend (alt account) -> GF (main account) -> GF (alt account) -> Other Friend (main account - new player)...
Then we'd just pair up with the expected "heaviest players", max out, and after the 60 days we paid for transfer the characters to main accounts. Voila. Super-slick alt leveling.
...Tangentially, wonder how this is going to affect the powerleveling business.
kuri Aug 5th 2008 4:47PM
Oh, well, I guess this wouldn't affect our main accounts. So, nix those.
Still, $30(x4) for the cards and $25(x4) to transfer... I'd say it's worthwhile for the buffs.
To explain "heaviest players", I'm referring to pairing up the every-day-all-day players in 2's, and the newbie casuals in 2's. After re-reading, figured I'd be getting this question...
kuri Aug 5th 2008 4:51PM
And further math errors... Triple-posting FTL.
Since the other friend wouldn't need to x-fer the character, it'd only be $25(x3), but the $30(x4) for the cards still apply.
Maybe we could just cancel our main accounts for 2 months for extra incentive to alt it up and powergrind our PVP gearz.
Bingeboy Aug 5th 2008 4:48PM
This is total BS.
Dragoth Aug 5th 2008 4:48PM
If your multi-boxing you will only be paying for one extra month of subscription. You can create a lvl 1 on your main, recruit yourself, create a lvl 1 and multi-box them to 60 in 90 days easy. Apply 30 free levels to another one of your toons on your main account. Pay for first month of subscription, your main gets one free. Pay for second month and you get your mount. Cancel the 2nd account if you so choose and you now have an extra 60, and a 31 plus with little effort.
Naix Aug 5th 2008 5:10PM
90 days?!? I can hit 70 in 5 weeks, maybe 4 if I go hardcore.
Tcgjarhead Aug 5th 2008 4:56PM
CMs keep deleting threads where people are upset about this in the General Forums lol
favoriteguy Aug 5th 2008 4:58PM
What if I have no friends??? :P
joggoms Aug 5th 2008 4:59PM
Neato, but I've already recruited 3 friends. I want a retro-active mount or I quit the game forever.
Zee Aug 5th 2008 11:49PM
Im sure you have to purchase the game itself ... so add that in the cost
Hawk Aug 5th 2008 5:16PM
Anyone wanting to recruit me and pay for it? LOL I've been wanting to come back to WOW but I'm poor.
Email is hawk@religious.com if you wanna =P
