Blizzard shows off Recruit-a-Friend benefits: Zhevra mount, summoning, triple experience

There's a new splash screen on the WoW homepage, but instead of hinting at a new game, it is instead showing off Blizzard's new Recruit-a-Friend benefits. Looks like they found a place for that Zhevra mount we heard about a while back -- whenever you recruit a friend into the game (by convincing them to create an account with your name as a reference and having them pay for at least two months of game time), you can choose one of your characters to nab a Zhevra mount. Additionally, you can summon referred friends to your character, and when questing together, you can pick up triple experience until level 60, for both quests and monsters that you kill together.
More details on Blizzard's support page. Just yesterday, we heard Mike Morhaime saying Blizzard was aiming to bring tons of people into the game this holiday season, and it looks like the recruiting drive has started.

so i recruit a friend, he hits 60, then he can bump my lvl 30 alt up to 60.
sweet.
that'll really help me learn the class.
good thinking blizzard.
Hobbes Aug 5th 2008 10:41PM
If you have a level 30 alt (and I'm guessing a level 70 main if you're actually recruiting), do you *need* to play through 70 levels to learn a class?
Zakk Aug 5th 2008 5:31PM
I really don't like this. I can't find any logical reason for not liking it, but I feel how I feel. It just reminds me of games like RuneScape. A bunch of little gimmicks to hide serious game faults. I don't think that's what they're doing with WoW, but it just gives me that same feeling. I don't know...maybe it'll all turn out okay.

Thanks mate, I got it and created an account. I made a toon on Terenas, but since it's a trial it won't let me whisper or anything =(
My toon on there is named "Proud", dwarf paladin... I'll be on later.

Cool though it is, the Zhevra is not the best idea here. It's the 3x leveling speed and level granting.
In short, this is Blizzard (a) Making it damn easy to get an alt going to level with your recruited friend, and (b) Letting you still spend time on your main while leveling on the alt.
It's brilliant.
What I want to know is, what type of mount is the Zhevra? Is it an epic or regular mount? If I'm below 60 now, can I get the regular mount first and then upgrade?
adamarius Aug 5th 2008 9:06PM
I want to know if anyone has gotten one yet, and if so, do you have any info for us?
Is it epic only, or is it like the TCG mounts, and you can get normal and epic speeds?
Is it mailed to you, or do you have to pick it up from a vendor, or something? Codes, etc?
And last of all, is it kicka$$ cool looking?

First, is the xp bonus quests AND mobs or not. Second, is the buff applied to one toon on the account or does it work as an account buff? So say I get one toon to 60, can I start another with the triple xp bonus?

Man I hope this is retroactive. I "recruited" 2 players, one of whom is now better than me. (He is our Guild's Main Tank.)

I see the point of this. There's been a cry for 'sidekick' mode for a long time.. For people that don't care about content or lore, this will be a godsend in allowing them to uber-powerlevel to catch up to all their lvl 70 friends.
My guild is all folks that enjoy the story AS a story.. We like reading the whole novel, and not just the Cliff's notes. We have a couple members that rerolled after powerleveling because they realized they had no clue what was going on - they'd just followed some other friend around for a month. Yeah, they were in Kara, but they had no reference for it.
This program just means I can't invite friends anymore, cause they'll get uberleveled if I play with them. I really hope they make the powerleveling optional..
Lenroc Aug 5th 2008 11:40PM
I don't think that gaining XP three times faster would necessarily stop anyone from enjoying the story. If you found yourself leveling too fast, you could still stay in an area even after the quests turn gray.

It's not retroactive =(

is this retroactivated as well? i dearly hope it is.
Kaylad Aug 6th 2008 5:26AM
woohoo! This just got added to the EU servers. Not so much interested in the mount as the other in-game buffs (triple XP while your character and one of your referral's are partied and the ability to summon each other anywhere). My teenage son is agitating for his own account... this has possibilities.
