Kaplan reveals a stinky achievement
It was just a quick sentence that went by almost completely unnoticed, flew totally under the radar. But in an interview which WoW lead designer Jeff Kaplan gave to WoW Vault, he mentioned a heretofore unknown achievement reward coming up in Wrath that will definitely pass the smell test.Current Wrath beta testers may have been able to peruse the approximately 500 achievements in the current build, but Kaplan has indicated that by the final release there will be 600-700 achievements for players to attempt. One of these achievements, Kaplan said, can be acquired by collecting pets. It seems that if you collect all the available pets in the game -- and I'm not sure if he meant tameable pets or collectible/vanity pets or both -- you will be granted a unique pet in the form of a skunk called Stinker. For my two "scents," I do love me some cute vanity pets, but I'm really glad that WoW doesn't come in a scratch-n-sniff version or with smell-o-vision.
So now it's time for you to earn a WoW Insider achievement! Anyone under the age of thirty who can guess the name of the character in the picture will get this achievement: "Le kittee quel terriblay odeur!!"

You're a poet.
Did you know it?
Zuldim Aug 5th 2008 5:11PM
pepe le pew, and what about unobtainable ones? Like blizzcon ones or collectors edition ones?
toledosuperman Aug 5th 2008 5:15PM
Looney Tunes aside, This unlockable pet will be nigh unattainable to everyone except blizzard employees if it involves vanity pets. To collect every single one, the individual would need to have bought all 3 collectors editions and attended all of the fairs/invitationals. I'm not sure how many people besides Blizzard employees / select members of the press attended the invites in Korea and Paris as well of the anheim cons.
:/
Though I do like the idea of a vanity pet for the overzealous hunter.

actualy i think they only are counting ones that are obtainable by INAGAME means, not CE and WWI stuff.
Stig Aug 5th 2008 5:17PM
Pepe le Pew! And I'm 23.
bitssy Aug 5th 2008 5:18PM
Even though I am way over 30--I know, with out a doubt: its pepe le pew-from warner brothers cartoons!
Stig Aug 5th 2008 5:18PM
I'm 23.
Pepe LePew - and I didn't read any responses, so I dunno if anyone has said it yet :)
bitssy Aug 5th 2008 5:20PM
So, us oldsters are being denied the chance to show that we know sumthin? Even I know it's pepe le phew
Natalie Mootz Aug 5th 2008 5:21PM
Nah, bitssy, I'm probably as old as you are. Just trying to tickle some brain cells.
mrderekt Aug 5th 2008 5:20PM
The picture above is Pepe Le Pew for those of you who didn't know.
Also, you can get 120 Energy by getting 5/8 Nightslayer pieces and the Vigor Talent in the Assassination Tree. In case you didn't know that either.
Natalie Mootz Aug 5th 2008 5:20PM
Wow, apparently that was way too easy. I thought since I'd not seen him on TV in decades and, as one commenter mentioned, he's not politically correct any more that most people wouldn't remember him. I was wrong! Still, I love the faux-French they use in the cartoons and I thought the "achievement" would give y'all a giggle. Thanks for playing along!
Thorn Aug 5th 2008 6:03PM
Don't feel bad Natalie. A couple of years before they re-released Star Wars in theaters (in anticipation of the "next" three coming out), I was working at a university and ran into freshmen who didn't know what Star Wars was. At all. I was 24 (or so) then... now I'm 36, but I've never felt older than that one moment. And I now always assume that anything I grew up with is completely foreign to anyone younger than 30.
Natalie Mootz Aug 5th 2008 6:34PM
Aw, thanks for making me feel a bit better, Thorn. That's a funny story about Star Wars ignorance. That does seem pretty shocking -- especially when it's something so much a part of the culture like Star Wars is. Pepe is a bit more obscure, but Warner Brothers ought to pat themselves on the back for having even minor characters with such high recognition. Here's my amusing oldster story: A young guy's cell phone went off in a bike store where I was shopping. He was about 20 or so. It played the theme to "Sanford and Son" and I recognized it immediately. I thought it was SO COOL to have that ringtone that I asked him about it. He said, "Yeah people have told me it was from some TV show but I just liked the song. I've never seen the show." /jawdrop /slinkaway
