Kaplan reveals a stinky achievement
It was just a quick sentence that went by almost completely unnoticed, flew totally under the radar. But in an interview which WoW lead designer Jeff Kaplan gave to WoW Vault, he mentioned a heretofore unknown achievement reward coming up in Wrath that will definitely pass the smell test.Current Wrath beta testers may have been able to peruse the approximately 500 achievements in the current build, but Kaplan has indicated that by the final release there will be 600-700 achievements for players to attempt. One of these achievements, Kaplan said, can be acquired by collecting pets. It seems that if you collect all the available pets in the game -- and I'm not sure if he meant tameable pets or collectible/vanity pets or both -- you will be granted a unique pet in the form of a skunk called Stinker. For my two "scents," I do love me some cute vanity pets, but I'm really glad that WoW doesn't come in a scratch-n-sniff version or with smell-o-vision.
So now it's time for you to earn a WoW Insider achievement! Anyone under the age of thirty who can guess the name of the character in the picture will get this achievement: "Le kittee quel terriblay odeur!!"

I certainly hope they don't include the CE pets, loot card pets, or blizzcon ones. I'd love to get the skunk pet, but I'm not about to drop *real* money to get it.

Even if it's only in-game vanity pets, Horde can't get this achievement, unless the sprite darter doesn't count, or is made attainable insome other way.
Quixota Aug 5th 2008 5:58PM
If this is per character, even the owners of the original CE wouldn't be able to get it, as they only received a choice of one of those three pets per toon. If the achievement doesn't include CE's, loot cards or whatever else is external, it's still going to be rather unfair, as only engineers can do Li'l Smokey OR the Tiny Bombling (and only one of those anyway, so they will also be excluded), AND the unfairest cut of all (single toon or account per server), is that there is one (virtually two if you include the Prairie Chicken, although that is obtainable if you have an Alli friend) pet that is Alliance only, in the Sprite Darter. So Hordies are excluded without doubt? That really would be a Stinker on Blizz's part >.

glad to hear about the skunk pet, i was actually hoping to get a vanity skunk pet! and a fox. and a penguin that waddles with my moonkin self.
guess i'll be grinding fireflies and whelps now, and checking the AH so see if someone put them at some ridiculously low prices!

Ok, sarah, this is the funniest comment EVAR. I do not know why I didn't think of "pew pew" because it would've been an awesome clue and very humorous pun to include in the post. Thanks for giving me a good chuckle.

Le Pew was my favorite looney tune. And now I'm am UBER excited about this vanity pet :D

Anyone game to make a humorous translation of the faux-French in my fake WoW Insider achievement at the end of the post: "Le kittee quel terriblay odeur!!"
alex.rushing Aug 5th 2008 7:20PM
If you mean translate into English, it's "The kittenn has a terrible smell."
If you mean actually translate into French, it's "Le chaton a une odeur horrible."
And "skunk" in French is "mouffette."
Michel Aug 5th 2008 7:59PM
he was called "pépé le putois" in french
("putois" or "moufette" for skunk)

My little brother who is 12 knew it was Pepe Le Peu. I know it and I am 18.

I cannot see that it means *all* pets as, has already been stated, some are in-accessible (either to non-engineers or Horde). Hence there will have to be a list of included versus non-included pets.
Included pets including:
- All Horde/Alliance racial pets (Moths, Snakes, Owls, Cockroach, etc).
- All BoE, consistent drop pets (Firefly, Whelps, etc).
- All BoP quest rewards (Worg Pup, Miniwing, etc).
Not included:
- Any Collector's Edition or Real-life gathering (Zergling, Lurky, etc)
- Any Profession only (Bombling/Lil' Smoky)
- Alliance-only quest (Sprite Darter)
Preferably not (but maybe):
- Black Tabby (Horde-only rare drop)
- White Kitten (Alliance-only vendor)
- Prairie Chicken (almost Alliance only - although, my Blood Elf has one)
- Limited availability pets (Scorchling, Captured Flame, Squashling) - I spent ages trying for a Scorchling with no luck.
That would probably be best division in my eyes, though doubtless some will disagree. Either way, certain pets are going to be a royal pain-in-the-arse to find - specifically, Emerald Whelpling and Hyacinth Macaw. Emerald Whelp has few spawns, and Hyacinth Macaw has dire droprate.
Shanic Aug 5th 2008 6:57PM
My assumption is that it uses the gather-75-pets achievement found here:
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?achievement=1250
...which is not all pets, but it is most.
awall Aug 5th 2008 8:14PM
This is probably the way they'll do it.
Juliah Aug 6th 2008 1:30AM
I hope you're right. That would be a tremendous relief. I have wanted a skunk pet ever since I saw the cute little NPC models on Azuremyst Isle!
tiwuno Aug 5th 2008 7:53PM
1) 22
2) Pepé Le Pew
Shadetrotter Aug 5th 2008 8:23PM
For an important coment: For the vanity pets, wouldn't it be hard for horde to get a Westfall Chicken?
Shadetrotter Aug 5th 2008 8:24PM
To further elaborate on my above comment- The chicken, when you do the dance enough times, becomes friendly to alliance, but hostile to horde
