I didn't actually try it, but I believe you could actually skip the DK experience if you wanted to. The zone connects directly to the Eastern Plaguelands. Of course, if you did this you wouldn't get the amazingly cool-looking DK starter armour, charger, runeblade or talent points, but you could still skip it if you really really wanted to.
