WoW Moviewatch: Piece of Me
The machinimator, Demachic, is a 13 year old girl from Ireland, and this is her first machinima! She managed to do better than some people on their tenth work, so it's surprising that it wasn't spotlighted on Warcraftmovies. She modeled it to look like the original music video, but it's not an exact replica. While I normally hate on excessive varying transitions, her use of them only enhances the video. I'm eager to see what song she machinimates next!

Turned my sound all the way down to 1 just for this song, but...
The machinimator is only 13? That's ridiculous! Quite a lot better than some other machinimas I've seen. I'll be honest, I sat through the whole thing.

Damn double-comments. WoW-Insider needs an Edit function :'(

She's done well. :) Wish I had done stuff like that at 13.
And um, I kinda sorta always secretly liked that song anyway...

I am always impressed by people who can do good replicas of music videos. It's not as easy as it looks like.
And she made me listen to the complete song for the first time ever ;)

I think she did an excellent job on that one. For a 13-year old, she's got talent for sure.
I look forward to seeing more of her stuff.

Pre-emptive Strike! Yes, I'm highly critical of praise-slinging.
She's 13. She can make a facsimile. Kudos on having the baseline talent to use the software, but copying things is what young artists do best. She doesn't get extra points for doing what kids her age do best.
Had she envisioned an entirely new video or told a new story or something, that'd be even better. Finding similar locales and models in WoW isn't a noteworthy feat.

you must not have kids.
Blackhorn Aug 7th 2008 1:05PM
Clearly, having never been 13 myself, and never having known any 13 year olds myself, I was out of line in speaking my opinion.
I have been vanquished.
I apologize if your 13 year old is a useless tit, "gg", I should never have implied that all 13 year olds had some innate talent. My most sincere apologies.

Chill the eff out, Blackhorn.

So... can you post some of the many things you did at 13 that were so over and above what the "typical" 13 year old would do? I'm just teasing you, not trying to be a smart alec.
The thing is, this isn't what the "typical" 13 year old would in the first place.
It's true, all new artists learn by copying at first. But most new artists in this field are much older than she is.
I think the point is that if she can do this at 13, what will she be able to do at 25?
Blackhorn Aug 7th 2008 1:45PM
@ZUR13L -- I think you're the one that may be a little high strung. I bookended my original comment with remarks that clearly indicated my nature, and that HOPEFULLY, people would take it with a grain of salt.
Judging by your SUPAKEWL name though, I'm not shocked that it went over your head.
Blackhorn Aug 7th 2008 1:49PM
Either way. I'm sorry everyone. I never intended for a conversation to break out in the middle of a blog's comment page. I'm so silly. I wasn't thinking.

hey Blackhorn,
go away!! this is america! we coddle our children excessively and create a false reality filled with soft edged toys and constant positive affirmation.
go back your "real" world and let our children enjoy the world we create around them before they get old enough to realize eveything is fake and they are really not very special or unique at all.
mr. hanky Aug 7th 2008 4:33PM
It's not about "coddling children and creating a perfectly fluffy world" - it's about not being a douche bag to younger kids, when you should know better as an adult. It's called constructive criticism, not a difficult concept to grasp, and it does not involve saying things like "your machinima is crap and people only like it because you are young and you know how to copy things good bla bla bla".
On another note, I also find it interesting that someone who is 13 years old can create something that is better than the trash most adults put out these days. Keep up the hobby and make movies you enjoy, I'm sure we will see something by you again here. Don't let the machinima snobs ruin your fun.

@ Mr. Hanky
Maybe if my original comment wasn't grayed out, you could read that at no point did I say the video was bad, or crap, or anything other than slinging praise around based on age may be silly.
If you look even closer you can even see glimmers of constructive criticism.. like maybe try something with an original story or try something using your own ideas for animation.
Ahem. FOOL.
Patton Aug 7th 2008 12:44PM
She did a good job with the video.
But her choice in music has made my opinion of Ireland drop substantially.
I kid.
Darxide Aug 7th 2008 1:36PM
YAY ! Ireland gets a mention on an american site :)
god knows the only thing i usaly see ireland refered to is because of the leprechaun outbreak decades back.
i mean common ! they went extint in the 80's ! every one knows that !
on the plus side, its some fine work for a 13 year old. some obvious rougeness around the edges but still a damn good first film.
kudos m'lady and welcome to the world of machinima
