Death is in the air for gold sellers

What smells like dead Orcs and flies? Goldseller spam in Orgrimmar. In the last few weeks it has been dead Gnomes in Ironforge. The dead bodies spell out the name of a gold selling website. This tactic has returned from about a year or so ago, but this is the first time I've heard of it in Orgrimmar. The body advertisements look sharper than the old versions. All in all it seems like an awful lot of work to get around spam filters.
Gold sellers have used several means to get their message out to the public, and Blizzard has found ways to combat it. I remember back in the day when we used to get spammed with whispers. Blizzard introduced the report spam feature for users to flag this content, the whispers nearly completely ceased overnight. I have to hand it to them, the gold sellers come up with innovative ways to market their product. Sure it violates the terms of use, but gold-selling by its nature is a violation. What's one more script here and there for them?

They are all Chinamen, blizzard should report them to the Chinese goverment so they can be arrested and shipped of to some gulag to die.
Grimshod Aug 8th 2008 1:43PM
Also, Dude, "Chinaman" is not the preferred nomenclature.
Ben Aug 8th 2008 1:49PM
Goodness. Anymore sweeping generalizations while you are at it?
Verit Aug 8th 2008 1:59PM
@ben
Read that story about those two Japanese reporters who were arrested, detained and beaten for reporting on a protest in Beijing?
I couldn't make this up if I tried.
p-diddy Aug 8th 2008 2:58PM
Grimshod, you are WIN.
Good thing I read this today because I do NOT roll on Shabbos.

Wow! The Ghost of Richard Nixon plays WoW?!

I'm not sure if this shot was actually taken on Mok'Nathal, but it looks the same as what happened there last night. It would be really funny to me if our backwater server only got attention for this garbage since we never do anything that's exciting.

No, this was on Caelestrasz, I'm the one who sent this in to wowinsider, when I saw this I couldn't believe what I was seeing, I know It has happened before in IF but not to such an accurate degree, but even still the only way anyone was going to read this is if they installed the improved camera mod anyway.
Here's another thing, Caelestrasz was one of a few servers that went offline yesterday for some reason (not rolling restarts), and this appeared after it came back online, could this be something to do with it?

I remember an article I read on another site that talked about the Chinese government arreesting a 20 man gold farming ring for failing to pay taxes on their profits. Governemnts can't get people for serious crimes...but they always get the tax evasion...just ask Al Capone.
Charles Aug 8th 2008 3:50PM
Those people are most likely dead now. If not all of them, a good majority.
roflZIP Aug 8th 2008 3:27PM
Come one these is cool.
Bunch of dead bodies around a city, its interesting and fun to see.
Watching them go and do it must be more fun tho.
Kinda like old Kazzak.
It still more fun than the similar events blizz does(none)
The goldspam was annoying tho theres no denying.
Gold selling might be really dead for good come WRATH as there seems to be no real money dump wich is good.
Mounts were the reason all these spammers ruined it for us.
Hurode Aug 8th 2008 6:31PM
I see you missed the epic 8000 gold Dalaran teleport rings? I can also guarantee that won't be the -only- gold sink. I'm still predicting player or guild housing.
Sallix Aug 8th 2008 3:51PM
haha seeing this almost makes me want to buy gold from thir site. Just to say "I love that originality, you win"

I used to think that Blizzard had a moral leg to stand on, but with the TCG loot cards, Recruit-A-Friend benefits, and turning a blind eye to multiboxing -- it's all about greed now.
More power to the gold sellers, I say.
MRkity Aug 8th 2008 6:43PM
Oh those TCG loots.
They arent just cool some of them are amazing.
Too good for just a random card that you can buy.
Some of those TCG loots could fit as proffesion or rep rewards,or just more fun things in the game.
Its a good business on E-bay.
I really hate the way blizz milks all that dumb people tho.
MechChef Aug 8th 2008 4:17PM
I want to do this on my own. But instead of a goldselling website, I'd use it to create rude messages and erotic pictures.
Green Armadillo Aug 8th 2008 4:21PM
Whisper spam may or may not be dead (it happens occasionally), but I still see a lot of trial account spam in major cities, so I'd hesitate to say that Blizzard is making great victories here.

I want an addon the automatically ignores all chat from level 1 orc warriors. On my server, every spammer in Org is a lvl 1 orc warrior. Every. Single. One.
Hurode Aug 8th 2008 6:36PM
There is actually an addon that blocks whispers from all characters below level 2. It's called Spammenot.
