I agree totally. When the first mage talents came out, I was severely disappointed. Then one round of changes came about and I was a little encouraged. Now with this second group of significant changes, I'm getting excited. I've been a 10/0/51 mage ever since I hit 70, but I think with the current beta build, I'm looking at going elementalist for the first time in 4 years. The tier 1 arcane talents are no longer good enough to warrant sinking 10 points into. Especially now that we have Brain Freeze.
I haven't done any number crunching, but it seems like elementalist mages have a huge chance of being one of the highest dmg output class. This requires more frost than fire, but deep enough for pyro and master of elements (to make up for no clearcasting). My current WotLK build is looking at 0/21/50. Having the improved water elemental is awesome, as well.
