Ask a Beta Tester: Do you not value your life fruit vendor edition
Boowat asked....
How do you actually get to Dalaran. It's really high up... can you only fly there?
Earlier in the beta, anyone could reach Dalaran by visiting the Crystalsong Forest and using a crystal below the city to teleport up. However, more recently, transport has been further restricted. To visit Dalaran one must be level 74 and complete a quest. (As I'm not yet level 74, I can't give you details on the quest, I've only been told it exists.) Commentor Ktok also notes that Mages get a self-only port to Dalaran at level 71.
The level 74 thing does seem a bit odd (can you imagine Shattrath with a level-restriction?), but we'll see if the restriction sticks around and makes it live.
Ezzy asked....
Are professions fully implemented yet? If tailoring is implemented, what size bag can you make with the new cloth?
Though we did have some new professions info from the beta build that launched last night, still no tailoring.
I was wondering about the new calendar. We currently use a mod to coordinate raids/instances between two guilds. Will the new WoW calendar have this ability or is it limited to members of one's own guild? I know that there is the option to send invites to players, but that seems a pain to throw an invite to every member of our partner guild.
Currently, the calendar only allows you to manually invite players, one at a time. However, I don't think the calendar is complete yet -- even in last night's build it had some interface updates which provides you with more details on who has accepted your invitation and the class makeup of your group.
Broadcloak asked...
What are the rep rewards from the two starting zones? i.e. which one should I have my main do?
Reputation vendors currently sell nothing of interest, I'm afraid -- so it's too early to make that decision! However, both zones are quite fun and there's no reason (at least not in the present beta build) that you couldn't bounce between the two and earn reputation with both.
I understand that the Death Knight runes will not stack with enchants (i.e. mongoose or executioner). As Death Knights progress throughout the game they are bound to get new weapons. When they get a new weapon and put rune enchants onit, does the appearance of the weapon change to reflect the presence of runes?
Each rune option has its own graphical look, just like an enchant does. Check 'em out in our runeforging gallery!
erin asked....
Are there any repeatable reputation hand-ins for Netherweave/Frostweave?
I've looked through the capitol cities and seen nothing of that sort. Sorry!

Damn I was going to corpse run to Dalaran right after I get WotLK...
PimpyMicPimp Aug 9th 2008 11:34AM
I was in a dilhema, since having a hearth in the main city of the game is a little cheesy, since you can zoom around the world. This way at least the first three levels will feel more adventurous.
Warlia Aug 9th 2008 11:25AM
does the game really look more crisp and detailed like people are saying?
vlad Aug 9th 2008 1:07PM
no, there is a collective across the world for random beta testers to mislead us all about it looking crisper.
seriously. there are a dozen comparisons if you learn how to google. also one here at wowinsider.
Radiophonic Aug 9th 2008 11:33AM
Mages get there at 71 but others have to wait three more levels? How is that fair?
Aislinana Aug 9th 2008 12:06PM
I dunno. Something maybe about being a mage and getting to access a *Mage City* might have something to do with it.
Cronje Aug 9th 2008 4:21PM
I imagine it'll be something like how the Shattrath teleport works now. You'd have to actually visit the city and talk to the trainer to learn the spell. Meaning, you'll have to get a warlock buddy and a couple friends to summon you in.
I could be mistaken, of course.
Radiophonic Aug 9th 2008 12:31PM
Nah, it's just because mages QQ about things like that. Dalaran is a city for -everyone- not just mages.
Kaphik Aug 9th 2008 12:36PM
No, it does actually have to do with Dalaran being the mage city. Try looking up some of the lore.
Grommsh Aug 9th 2008 2:54PM
Moonglade is a city for everyone but Druids can port themselves there at level 10. Please don't complain about Mages getting a self-port to Dalaran until you get them to fix this similar issue.

Why did Naxx fly to the Dragonblight of all places? And do we see more of Kel'thuzad and the other bosses outside of Naxx?
Piper Aug 9th 2008 4:01PM
Major spoiler, but the Scourge is trying to raise the progenitor of all Dragonkind as a massive uber-frostwyrm.

after leaving the DK starter zone yesterday I flew to SW, and even though I have my graphics setting turned down to improve performance, the old world looks much better than it does in live (where I also have the graphics turned down to the same level). I haven't gotten my main anywhere near 74, can locks summon folks to dalaran or is summoning turned off there? If the restriction stays in palce, guess i'll just leave my hearth set to Shatt until I get to dalaran "legitimately",which isn't that big of a deal really, shatt to SW to northrend isn't that bad, and I'll likely just log out in inns in northrend till I get to a city and use an alt to get stuff off the AH (btw if you think the economy on your server is bad, you should look at the beta servers, 100g for 5 super healing pots!)
Tridus Aug 9th 2008 12:03PM
Technically, Shattrah does have a restriction. You need to be level something (either 50 or 58, I forget which) to walk through the portal. Since you can't walk to Shattrah without walking through the portal...
The restriction on Dalaran is a similar sort of deal. Being summoned there or taking a portal (once people are high enough level to get the portal spell) will let you go at any level. The restriction is just on walking in.
Thander Aug 9th 2008 1:56PM
Didn't they remove that restriction in 2.3?
kunukia Aug 9th 2008 4:29PM
Yah, but who walks through the portal? All my lowbies are hearthed there, after getting a mage or warlock to get me there.
Iwanttobeasleep Aug 9th 2008 11:29PM
There's a difference between Shattrath being level restricted to people who can go to the Outland, and Dalaran being level restricted even to people currently questing in Northrend. You can travel to Shattrath as soon as you reach Hellfire Peninsula, but if Dalaran is level restricted to 74, you need to go through a few zones to reach the city.

In the beta, is Tirion Fordring still in the Eastern Plaguelands, and if not, then what happens to the quests he gives, like Redemption?

I have two questions regarding the global cooldown in Wotlk:
1: Currently, Spell haste rating lowers the GCD by a small amount, but melee haste rating does not. Since both stats are being consolidated into 'haste rating' in Wrath, how is haste rating working on the GCD in the beta right now?
2: Currently, item-based mounts can be used independently of the GCD, while spell-based mounts(warlock, paladin, and druid flight forms) cannot. Are the new mounts-as-spells castable while the GCD is running?
(If you're curious why I ask, ignoring the GCD means you can make a useful, simple, one-button macro to cast any instant-cast spell and mount up. Water Shield, MotW, Inner Fire, even Crusader Aura, if you forgo the use of your Charger for an item-based mount.)
An easy example of the macro is:
/cast Water Shield
/cast Black War Elekk
Replace Water Shield with any instant cast buff, and Black War Elekk with your mount's name.

Can anyone comment on how the new graphics work with older computers? Will those of us with computers designed for less-than-gaming have to turn down the graphics?
