The latest blacksmithing patterns from Wrath
Blacksmiths received a happy surprise in the latest beta build that launched tonight in the form of a bunch of new craftable gear, including the ability to add a socket slot to belts, bracers, and gloves and some nice new epic items. So far, we're seeing epic helms and boots of three different playstyles:- With defense: Tempered Titansteel Helm, Tempered Titansteel Treads,
- With crit: Spiked Titansteel Helm, Spiked Titansteel Treads
- With spell power: Brilliant Titansteel Helm, Brilliant Titansteel Treads
That's all the epics, but if you want to see all of the recent additions, check them out in our blacksmithing gallery!

162 Stamina on a helm?
Holy crap.

Finally some love for blacksmithers. We got the short end of it whe BC came out. Being able to add sockets to items will be great for profiteering on the AH. I just hope they give a little more love to us blacksmithers than they do jewelcrafters, letherworkers or enchanters.

;) having the Holy trinity of all 3 professions across different toons this will be a welcome change to help over power some lowbie toons I have once I start leveling them during wrath.

108+ str!!! That's unbelieveable.

The spellpower mace is totally a Pally tanking weapon. Notice the slower swing time, and higher DPS than a caster weapon with a high stamina bonus. The spell power and stamina add to our spell damage, while the medium (still not sure if paladins should use no spell power high DPS weapons, or weapons like this) give damage to our new melee abilities.
Looks like they're trying to come to the middle ground between tanking spell power weapons and normal warrior/dk weapons.

Hmm, not so sure. As the attack power seems to be greater than the pell power. And with pallys now being able to take advantage of attack power as well, I think the expertise rating on the AP mace makes it a bit better for tankadins.

I'm curiouse if the applied sockets will stack with enchants on gear.
Adorenko Aug 9th 2008 6:14AM
You would think that it would stack with enchants on gear, otherwise it would seem pointless to have the ability to add sockets. Consider you pay to have an enchant of +10 stam added to a "piece." Then you want to add a socket to this same "piece" and insert a gem with +6 stam and +4 resilience bc your a tankadin. But suppose you can't stack, so you lose the original +10 stam enchant. So you paid for the enchant, then lose it, then you pay for the socket and the gem and your down 300 gold (based on what the cost of the socket might be on AH plus the other mats) after everything you've done to that "piece." It would just be another way to nerf Blacksmithing but knowing blizzard its not crazy to think that they wouldn't nerf us.

Unless titansteel turns out to be rarer than rocking horse excrement, the reagents for these patterns seem very reasonable, don't you think?
(Or it's still probably a case of work in progress until they figure out exactly how much money they want off me.)

Titanium Ore currently seems to be near the same rarity as Khorium Ore is in BC. Titansteel Bar take 1 Titanium Bar (2 ore) plus 4 Eternal Earth (it's the Primal Earth of WotLK). As well, crafting a Titansteel Bar has a 20 hour cooldown on it.

Ahhh, that sounds alot more like it then.
Must say though, these new patterns make me very happy. ^^

I was wondering what about shields in wotlk? Currently they are the only items not craftable. Any news about them?

This annoying my replies never post from work it might bc of their security resrictions but this post is in response to Jagoth:

Nevermind

I know it is to make a ton of things more easily shared between classes, but with the exception of the one shield plan I looked at, there was not a single piece that had intellect on it.
As a Holy paladin, this is a rather awkward direction to go in, as far as I am concerned. However, for all I know, the raw spellpower, mana per 5, and stamina (meaning I'm actually alive long enough to cast my heals) will somehow make up for it.
Plus, there's always that 'one potion per fight' deal going on, so maybe I just don't need that much more starting mana to work with because the mp5 will be enough.

actually mmo champion is a tad misleading.. it only shows those enw epic items, but in fact blacksmithing got a LOT of new recipes from 375 upwards to 430 and such, with all kinds of different gear. too many to list though.
Delmonico Aug 9th 2008 8:05AM
So my question is, would the belt buckle be able to add a socket to a belt that already has sockets.... ie Red Belt of Battle?
Also, what are the odds that there will be a Meta Socket BoP recipie?
turkeyspit Aug 9th 2008 8:18AM
Any word on upgrades for Armorsmith/Weaponsmith items?
Tacosofdeath Aug 9th 2008 10:46AM
You think Blacksmithers got it rough in BC try being and Engineer =(
Khanmora Aug 9th 2008 10:13AM
All of these patterns are BoE, I'm still not seeing a compelling reason to keep blacksmithing when I'm sure the market will be flooded with these items as people level.
