WoW Insider finds familiar faces in Wrath of the Lich King
While Northrend is a distant and strange land, there are a few friendly and familiar faces in Wrath to ease our pain. These range from joke appearances to lighten the mood, or more serious storylines being continued from WoW Classic and the Burning Crusade.
These familiar faces are spread all throughout Northrend, and we've collected a lot of them in a gallery for you to look through. A few of the returning characters are missing from the gallery for various reasons (like turning in an unfinished quest despawning all NPCs in the area) but we'll get those when we can, too. There's plenty of spoilers in this gallery, though not many of them are massive plot points. Still, if you want everything to remain a secret, I'd be careful.
Oh, before all of you spam the comments about it, no I did not forget 'the Scourge.' I thought that was a little obvious. Also, there are two massive zones and numerous dungeons not yet implemented. There are probably way, way more to come. We haven't seen Sylvanas yet.

The Shade of Arugal had better quote some of his old Shadowfang Keep lines.
"Release your rage!"

A minor question which I'm too lazy to check out in the beta right now (I haven't set my hearth in northrend yet and really don't want to leave it). When it's said that they've 'relocated' in the image gallery, does that mean they are no longer in their former locations as well? Or is it just a sorta "later in the story..." deal so they're in both locations? Examples being Stoutmantle and Nesingwary, are they no longer in Westfall or Nagrand respectively?

yeah that's a good question... i mean at first blizzard just replaced everything they moved (like with hemit's son) but now they are moving a whole lot of stuff (old blanchy lol) so i'm hoping they'll do a kael'thas and have them at two places instead of just making some weird placetaker npc to give out their old quests instead (like that giant orc that took rexxar's place)...

Idk.
2 options, blizz moves them and places someone else or makes a new quest to make up for it.
Or blizz just adds another version of the same characters and pretends we dont notice there are 2.
Blizz is lazy so we are probably gonna have 2 nesingwarrys.
Just imagine that ,no animal would survive.
Lazy blizz cant continue storylines.
Just look at gnomer.

For the most part they exist in 2 places, since as you quest you are generally progressing through the story. So Outland is an earlier 'chapter' than Northrend. There are a few exceptions here and there though.

I *love* the fact that Gryan Stoutmantle and the Westfall militia are up there.

But westfall is still gonna be under the atack of the pseudo ninjas...

We'll need to kill 15 of each type of Vykrul, intercept the Proto-Dragon Messenger, and then have the Nerubian Traitor take us to the secret hideout of Arthas, hidden ironically inside a church.
Zep Aug 9th 2008 3:02PM
In the middle of the fight against Arthas, he'll yell "I'LL HAVE TO IMPROVISE!!!", toss Frostmourne to the side, and pick up a large battle axe. Players at this point are advised to run for their lives.
Meira Aug 9th 2008 3:15PM
Don't forget Anub'arak yelling "Arthas will pay big for your heads!"
And instead of pirates with parrots, we'll have necromancers with summoned squeletons. With luck, you can loot [A Necromancer's Charm], that summons a little squeleton :)
Oh and an undead kittie will drop from an abomination murloc!

Ooo, Eitrigg has always been one of my favorite characters from the novels. If he's part of the Argent Crusade now, that means he'll probably be interacting with Tirion Fordring again. It'll be interesting seeing what they have to say to each other.

I've been looking for Korrak the Bloodrager in Northrend, but no luck yet.

It's great to see old characters return from the Warcraft past. It creates a sense of continuity and an evolving world. But wow, the Westfall Brigade must have been pretty desperate to drag poor old Blanchy all the way to Northrend.

Wow, since Saurfang is now in Northrend, does that mean that no one is guarding Orgrimmar's front entrance? Who is going to make the Alliance cower in fear now that he has gone north?
Skarlette Aug 10th 2008 5:45PM
Saurfang has a history of being in two places at once (see AQ gate opening). It's amazing that Azeroth can handle his awesomeness in duplicate, but there you go.
