Actually, I believe the stripping thing is in reference to The Invisible Man, of science-fiction literary and movie fame. If memory serves, he had to remove all of his clothes (and bandages around his face and hands) to become 'invisible'.

Another little in-joke from the world of Nerddery and Geekdom. ;)
