RP in your toons is fine. Enjoy yourself.
The moment RP gets in the way of 9 (or 24) other people working on progressing new content, then it is not fine.
My time is valuable to me. When I raid, I am on time, and bring enough consumables for many hours of attempts for myself and others, just in case. I expect other members of the team to do the same, and to bring their best effort.
When one member of the team decides not to buy half her classes core abilities because of 'RP' then that person is someone who is bringing down the team for her personal enjoyment. That is not permissible for me to do with others, and I object strongly when it it is done to me.
You have the right to play a priest and not buy any shadow spells. Hopefully, the consequences of someone exploring that right is not to be invited on progression raids.
