Around Azeroth: Matricide
I doubt murlocs get much sympathy in Azeroth these days. We've all spent a bit too much time running back to a corpse on some godforsaken beach because Murphy McMrrgggllton decided to take a vacation at 20% health and returned with four of his closest friends.
However, you've got to feel a little sorry for the mother murloc in this picture, taken by Mermuhanii of the beta server Lich King. Her murloclings have turned on her, and she's suffered the same fate as many adventurers before her. But what? Maybe she was an abusive mother, hitting her babies with that flaming trident. Or murlocs might devour their mother after they're born, like nematodes. Either way, there's one less murloc in the world (or four more murlocs, depending on how you look at it.)
This image came to us straight from the Wrath of the Lich King beta -- and we'd love to have your beta screenshots, too! If you have anything our readers might like, beta or not, sharing it is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. And, please, no more sunsets! Unless it's a sunset over Arthas's grave.

I'd say that there's 3 more murlocs in the world

There are six murlocs in the picture - five "babies" and the dead mother. n + 5 - 1 = n + 4. Four more murlocs.

I hear the "rrrgllrrglrlg" sound in my sleep sometimes.

There are 4 babies Chris, the "fifth" you see is the flaming trident. I have no idea what you're going on about w/ "n". 4 babies + mom - mom = 4 more murlocs. o_O

There are five babies. The two that are right next to each other, the one on the mother's head, the one front and center and the green one.

Look closer, Zep. There are two babies in the foreground, and three standing on the mother's corpse. The two farthest to the right overlap: http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.wowinsider.com/media/2008/08/aa-patricide-1024.jpg
The "n" is the number of murlocs right before one of two events: the birth/hatching/whatever of the babies or the death of the mother. If it's just before the birth, then there are (number of murlocs) + 5 babies - 1 mother, or n+4. If it's the death, there are (number of murlocs) - 1 mother (since the babies are already born, and thus counted), or n-1.
Glad I could help.

Guys, they're merlocs. It doesn't matter how many there are. They'll respawn.
