Breakfast Topic: Buggy memories

Take, for example, the screenshot above. It probably doesn't count because it happened on the Wrath beta and of course there are bugs there, but it was the beginning of a night that made me laugh for hours. If you can't tell what's going on... I'm piloting an airplane, my buddy tried to hop in with me but his chair is floating a few feet over my head for some reason, and someone decided to park their siege tank twenty feet up a wall, inside of the wall. That pretty much sums up the current state of Lake Wintergrasp, in case you were wondering.
If that doesn't count, there's the time a few years back when some friends and I ran Zul'Farrak, and a basilisk we aggro'd threw us twenty feet backwards for some reason, into another basilisk that threw us right back. We cried tears of laughter through about twenty minutes of the two basilisks playing catch with our flailing bodies before we were coherent enough to try and figure out what the heck was going on.
Do you guys have any memories like this? Do you ever wish you could go out and do them again for the nostalgia of it all, or are you pretty content keeping it a one time thing?

As a balance druid, my favorite bug was the one where my treants aggroed every bit of wildlife in the zone to my target.
Every time I had a pvp experience I just sent treants and BAM, fight over in 5 seconds.

Actually I think my favorite bug of all time was when Zul'Gurub was released and the corrupted blood plague was brought to stormwind. I laughed for hours.

Something interesting just happened to me recently: I was on my Charger trying to get on the elevator in Shattrath from the Scryer tier. Being impatient, I jumped down as the elevator was coming up, but managed to jump right on the edge of it right as it passed by me. Instead of plummeting to my doom as I would expect, I simply stood there, as if standing on solid ground. I waited for the elevator to come back, and still just stood there, reigning over the city on my invisible cloud. The second I bumped forward, I 'fell off', and immediately regretted not taking a screen shot.

Something similar happened to me yesterday in thunderbluff. I was running towards the elevator and it started going to so I tried to jump onto the roof. Ended up just hovering just below the walkway and the elevator was far below. I just stood there waiting, and when the elevator came back up I was able to walk onto it.

That happened to me over a year ago when I was leveling in Thousand Needles. Same story, missed the elevator and ended up being elevated there. Took a bunch of screens. Fun times.

One of my favourites was a ZF bug with Hakkar himself.
In one of our early attempts we were wiped hard - or so we thought....
For some reason one of our Mages had become immune to damage and we watched and cheered for ages as she first ran out of mana blasting away and then continued wanding Hakkar.
30 minutes later with Hakkar neither doing any damage or healing himself it actually looked like eventually she would solo kill the Boss.
But through a mixture of boredom and fear of exploiting she eventually shifted position and broke the immunity.
To this day every time she joins a group or Raid alongside someone who was there we say "Ah we can't fail now this Mage solo'd Hakkar".

Everyone has probably experienced this one:
Falling through the world in Outland, into that swirling vortex of doom below? hehe, you would rez, faaaallllll, die, rez faaaaaallllllll die, rinse, repeat.
hehe.

I had something similar. I fell off the Org to UC zeppelin right as it was transitioning to the loading screen. I thought I'd land in the water and have to deal with a long swim back.
Instead, my poor toon was dead, and in perpetual falling, getting ported up, falling some more. Based on where the mini-map said I was, I believe I was falling from Naxx. So my level 30something Rogue made it to Naxx.

TBC beta... Fel Reavers suddenly transformed into regular-sized black bears. They maintained the ferocity, noises and earth-shaking movements of 50ft high mechanical behemoths though.
They were more stealthy than even the Devilsaurs.

Oh damn, being new to Wowinsider made me fail big time with the thing. :(
jrb Aug 11th 2008 8:43AM
either, early after wow was released, disappearing boat bug from menethil, where the boat would disappear leaving loads of us stranded in the middle of the ocean, again and again and again. oh the hillarity ¬_¬
or where razorfen downs bugged so that every mob was duplicated. But as alliance we didn't know any better, so kept trying anyway.
or finding a part of the stormwind geometry that wasn't clipped, and falling through to an empty part of the map, trying to get back and falling through the world for ever.
or when combat pets wouldn't de-summon when you mounted up, and would consistently get lost, or stuck world geometry, meaning you'd have to summon them again - not so much fun for locks with no shards.
or before there were weekly maintenance windows, and a quest mob would become stuck, and therefore unattackable until the server was rebooted.. which could have been weeks.
or still in the game, where mobs would warp on screen from where they actually are in game. meaning it's hard to know where to stand to attack close range, or ranged. Thankfully hunter pets always know where to stand to melee.
thankfully the game is a lot less bug-ridden than it was 4 years ago! :D

That last bug you wrote about still happens a lot to me.

First run of shadow labyrinth, not long after TBC started. Every single mob was duplicated, so 2 of every boss as well. We didn't actually realise until we cleared to the first boss - we'd thought it must have been set on "heroic" or something. Double loots off the first boss ftw, but on trying the second boss, we found that they staggered the mass mind control, and the best way to describe our complete lack of success was "hilarity ensued".
Ever since, that instance has seemed awfully easy ...

The time our core hound pack did not die properly. They kinda just stood there with 1 hit point left, not attacking.
Free weapon skill ups for all. I picked up about 50 points in staves before we could get a GM to come and despawn them.
Knucker Aug 11th 2008 12:12PM
I remember that. XD
Eventually we got bored and went to kill Magmadar with a pack of Corehounds still "alive." :P

I have two glitches that I really found interesting. Fortunately only one resulted in my death, but that's how it goes i guess... The first happened to my mage:

Standard case of the lift in 1K needles leaving me stranded halfway down.
Second happened to my Shaman in Shadowmoon Valley. Basically I realized it was glitching when I went to cast my Water shield and my hands just glowed green and the cast never happened. When I went to mount I heard the sounds of mounting, but my Character didn't move. Out of habit I hit the spacebar to fly when the sound stopped and surprisingly I lifted off without my mount. I was able to swim all over Shadowmoon Valley as if I were on a flying mount.

LOL... something similar happened to my Tauren on Mok'Nathal. One moment I was taking to the wind-rider master at Kargath, the next I was "swimming" in mid-air along the entire flight path to Undercity.
That was one tired Tauren, for sure.

This was back in the pre BC days, but I joke about how I hold the non porting speed record from Feathermoon stronghold in feralas to Auberdine. It happened twice to me, on the same flight, Originally intending to go to Darnassus, I boarded the rental flight , and immediately the hippogryph banked a little too hard and crashed into the ground, a second later I landed at auberdine, I have no idea how or why this happened, but needless to say I was quite pleased that the otherwise horrid flight of like what's it 10 min at least, was cut down to 1 second, I had time to fly to darnassus from auberdine, turn in the quest I was turning in, and check the auction house, before my friend who had taken the same flight, even set foot in darnassus.

Way back when people would let their pet become Baron's bomb in MC and quickly dismiss them, only to summon them later in the AH and let the bomb go off, killing everyone immediately. I never saw that happen live, but I did see video of it and it was hilarious.

I remember the good old Grpyhon bug. At a Gryphon master instead of taking off a second of lag would mount you on a Gryphon but leave you standing there and able to fly around on the Gryphon, albeit incredibly laggily without any solid control over it.
It was still very cool nonetheless. I remember flying around Duskwood on my Gryphon at what must have been level 20-30-ish, my first character too, as I believe this bug stopped happening after a while.
Maybe people who've had the same bug should make a "mounted on a Gryphon 2 years before tBC!" club
