This is a very fast rug
We've already talked about what was said in the latest Blizzcast: mainly profession details and music, as well as a few snippets on dungeons and raids from Kaplan (and some Starcraft II stuff). But there were some interesting pieces of information given away in an image linked on the podcast transcript page that were not discussed in the podcast, in the way of new crafted items. The image is replicated above; click for a bigger version. My favorite is definitely the Magnificent Flying Carpet. Yes, it's a flying mount for tailors, and I am pretty certain that it will be awesome.
Here's everything I found in that image that I don't remember having seen elsewhere:
- Magnificent Flying Carpet: Requires level 70, tailoring (450). Use: Calls forth and dismisses a flying carpet. This is a very fast rug. This mount can only be summoned in Outland and Northrend. Requires artisan riding skill or higher to use.
- Floral Foundations: Encrypted, requires inscription (50). A small collection of rare herbs. [No, I have no idea what this is, aside from something to do with Inscription.]
- Spring Loaded Cloak Expander: requires engineering (425). Use: permanently modifies a cloak so it can be activated by a skilled engineer, causing them to fall slowly for 10 sec. The effect can only be activated every 5 min.
This last item ties in to what Jon LeCraft (WoW's lead profession designer) was saying about engineering having items to give effects to gear, as opposed to replacing gear outright like the Parachute Cloak. Engineered enchants, basically. Overall, I continue to be more and more excited about professions in Wrath.

Stuff like this makes me wish I'd broken the class mold and gone with Tailoring instead of leatherworking. I'll always kind of wish I'd done engineering instead of enchanting, but at least I can make a bit of coin from chanting. ;)
This stuff looks good. :)

Floral Foundations sounds like something similar to what jewlcrafters do with Brilliant Glass.
Ichthus Aug 11th 2008 7:21PM
Interesting with the engineering thing adding a 'Use' feature to items instead of just an assortment of strange trinkets and cool goggles.

A magic carpet :O
must control excitement!!!

Indeed! I've been grinding Sky Guard rep on my mage because a nether ray is the closest thing to a flying carpet. And a mage must ride a flying carpet, of course. Tailoring 375, ready to skill up. This is filled to the brim with awesome.

Too funny. :P

Had them for about 4 years in EQ2, they do look cool though :)

That's right, Dude. They peed on your f*ing rug.

This engineering chant/mod. I'm torn. It's cool, no doubt. But I guess I'd hate to make a sacrifice between it and applying a more useful enchant (like agility). If the cool-down was 30 seconds like the parachute cloak, we'd be in business.
Knucker Aug 12th 2008 1:52AM
I'm guessing you would probably apply it to a low quality cloak and just switch in and out of it, instead of applying it to your cloak that you actually use to raid/instance/solo.

"Spring Loaded Cloak Expander"
FINALLY
there is still some hope left for engineering. not much. but a little.
kyuuketsuki Aug 11th 2008 7:53PM
I am glad they are going this direction with the engineering stuff, I want to be like Inspector Gadget :)
Having to carry around alot of seperate devices is not nearly as cool as being able to modify the gear you're already wearing...my bag space thanks you Blizz.
...and the carpet? I was thinking of dropping tailoring now that drops had replaced my Frozen Shadoweave... but patterns like this and the cloak embroidery are making it stay valuable.
joe Aug 11th 2008 7:48PM
Depends. Does that replace the "standard" enchanting slot, or can it be placed along side a regular enchant?
If it's basically a different enchant, it's not going to save bag space; you're still going to have your cloak that you use for fighting and your cloak for falling.
bumble Aug 11th 2008 7:58PM
joe - guess it depends what the content will be like. when I was doing a whole lot in skettis I would have put this parachute pack onto my normal dps cloak. but ofcourse, it depends on the alternatives. working from current enchants I must say i would rather put a rocketpack on my DPS boots than a boars speed enchant given the choice. as it stands now I dont even have the rocketboots or parachute cloak in my bags anymore as they suck tremendously compared to my normal gear and are too situational.
squeama Aug 11th 2008 7:36PM
I am SO glad they are making a parachute cloak-like engineering item that is viable in Northrend. The one I have is very dear to me and I use it all the time. I particularly like to jump from the road down to the Gold mine in Arathi Basin, bringin' Death from above.

I figure it shouldn't replace a normal enchant... many engineering made items have a "use" function, or even multiple ones both passive and active (like the 70 goggles zoom/stealth detection).
John Aug 11th 2008 7:56PM
"Requires artisan riding skill _or higher_ to use."
Does anyone else think the "or higher" implies there will be a "higher" level of riding skill? Why mention "or higher" if there isn't any higher level of skill? Also why call it a very fast rug, as opposed to a very fast mount, though I wonder if there will also be a slower than "very fast" rug as well.
RogueJedi86 Aug 11th 2008 8:16PM
Covering their asses for future expansions I'd say. You'd be very naive if you think they'll never ever give a higher riding skill.
If I had to guess on this expansion though, I'd say we'll be getting a new level of flight at 80 so we can fly multi-passenger mounts. Too far-fetched. Just because I can drive a car doesn't mean I don't have to get a new license to drive a bus or 18-wheeler.

Planning for the future, would be my guess.
