BlizzCon tickets listed as sold out [UPDATED]

Most of those who wanted to buy a BlizzCon ticket have just been through two horribly rocky days marked by constant refreshing, stylesheet errors, and the dreaded Fail Murloc. For better or worse, it looks like that wait is at an end, as the multiple sources are reporting that BlizzCon Tickets are sold out.
This is probably something Blizzard's going to see some backlash on one way or another. Whether it was poor planning, poor servers, an expected deluge of customers, or a combination of all 3 and more, the experience of trying to buy a BlizzCon ticket for most has been anywhere from 12-36 hours of pure agony marked by small 5-20 minutes windows where handfuls of lucky customers made off with the precious tickets.
Of course, all hope may not be lost for those who failed to capture a ticket, as this may simply be yet another CSS error.
In addition, Blizzard did sell the Worldwide Invitational tickets in waves as well. They may need to do the same for Blizzcon here, if only to give a fair shake to everyone who could never get past the CSS errors and the cold unforgiving face of the Murloc.
EDIT: A commenter on the official BlizzCon forums says that a Blizzard phone rep told him they are not sold out.
EDIT 2: The ticket page appears to be working again and not showing the tickets as Sold Out. The Fail Murlocs and XML errors continue apace, however.
Edit 3: The saga continues. as of 4:40 PST EDT, some sources are reporting the dreaded sold out notice again -- or are having the ticket mysteriously disappear from their cart once they make it to checkout.
Edit 4: Nethaera has just posted to say that most BlizzCon tickets are now sold out. However, they will be selling a small reserve starting tonight at 8 PM PDT.

I got this same message but I stuck with it and after 5 agonizing minutes the screen went back to "Tickets Available" and I got my two tickets (Yes, Virginia, there is a God). I hope everyone does as well as I did.

I am witha group of people in a vent channel... One of them knows a Blizzard GM in the Cali offices... He just got off the phone with his friend and they are "Throttling the ticket sales allowing 200 tickets to be sold at a time." They then say soldout for 5 minutes then bring it back up and repeat the process....
I cant confirm it but it seems to be true...

Keep refreshing the item page, even if you get a "sold out" message.
After stalking the pages for almost 2 days, I had finally got to step three (log in, items in cart, fill out attendee info) when the cart was "emptied" and I got a "the item is no longer available / sold out" message.
After raging for longer than I'd care to admit (the tickets are for husband and son, and airline tickets and hotel have already been acquired) I refreshed the item page and was able to complete the order (it's listing sold out again, I see).
I see here that it seems to be blizzard's way of handling the traffic to the site, by putting only x number of tickets up at a time. Frustrating, but I guess it makes some sort of sense.

So I got all the way through putting names/factions on the tickets and then it said "The availability of this product changed while you were shopping"
upon hitting refresh- SOLD OUT.

As I sit here on the east coast a thought occurs to me. I should buy these tickets. At least 2-3. Then re-sell when they are sold out. My plan should look like this
Step 1: Buy tickets
Step 2: ???? (aka wait for ravenous fanboys to be so desperate for a ticket they will pay with their children)
Step 3: Profit! Or delicious nerd-baby meat!
rick gregory Aug 12th 2008 5:08PM
You can't. The require attendees to show the credit card that was used to buy the tickets when picking up the badges. At least they did last year.
svenhoek Aug 12th 2008 6:32PM
That is weaksauce. If I want to completely gouge desperate people for my own personal financial gain, there should be nothing stopping me from that.
I guess people like me are the reason they do that, huh?

I had actually given thought to this as well. If I had bought 6-7 tickets, kept one for myself, and sold the rest on ebay, I would probably have enough money to actually go to Blizzcon! unfortunately I wont be able to do this, thanks to Blizzards anti-scalping techniques. So until Blizzcon comes east coast (PAX is doing it, which I might add is epically FTW. If I could I would buy my east coast PAX tickets RIGHT NOW, as I will be going to it.) I wont be going to Blizzcon :(
Blizzard is really missing out on a large chunk of the population that would like to go. In fact, alot of companies are by always doing their shit in Silicon Valley. Nerds do reside outside of that area people. Show the East some much deserved love pls.

OMG this bites....here has to be a better way. This could affect how many people want to go to the next if they done figure this out. I waste enough time as it is playing now I spend 2 days trying to get tix for my son and I.
