Win. XD Actually. I really do think Terry Pratchett offers some incredibly powerful commentary amongst his parody too. And yes, Discworld is an absurd world... but he's also made me laugh and cry within just a few pages in his books. Pratchett is a perfect example of how one can have politics, humor, and serious problems all in one world. D.E.H.T.A. is an example of something that appears very funny, but an issue that exists in our world as well. I mean, I know Video games have never made political statements before but... oh wait. That's right. Alot of them do. And the very premise of WOW is the clash of idealogies, cultures, and histories. The idea of keeping up a fight just because that's how it's always been done and hey, they totally knocked our drink over in kindergarten and you KNOW they did it on purpose... DEHTA builds up slowly. At first, it's simply freeing animals from a trap...then there's a quest that actually KILLS the trappers in their own traps. Which was morbid as hell. I was kinda horrified. (Can you tell I've avoided 99% of Forsaken quests on my Horde characters?) Then, you're finally send after Harold. Not that, you know, I'm inclined to feel sorry for him because he made me bloody get him furs and he was totally faking being hurt in Nagrand. But still. They even have you kill the rino one of their enemies ride because now that beast is 'tainted'. And they have a statue of Hemet in a burning circle. They are CLEARLY screwed up little druids. They want you to collect -ears- of the people who work for Hemet. To wear around their necks. It's pretty nasty. I honestly feel that people can't comment on it bringing too much 'humor' into the game until they've actually done the questlines. I felt...honestly really twisted helping them. I went through the questline, but there were alot of times I was like "Holy crap, this is just NOT COOL." And I think that's sorta the point. You're helping animals fight and freeing calfs from traps and that's good, because it IS awful to see them trapped and poached like that. But at the same time, the side that wants you to help those animals is pretty horrid too. It's two extremes and there's no middle ground. Anyone who thinks this detracts from the lore... well, I admit I don't RP in WoW. I run events in a text based game, though, and this sort of thing, while coming off as a parody at first... is incredibly powerful itself.
