Mounts now welcome in Booty Bay
Tcher on WoW LJ comes through with an interesting change in the Wrath beta: mounts are now usable throughout Booty Bay. Personally, I've never had a problem navigating around there without a mount, but apparently it's a welcome change -- you'll be able to go all around one of the coolest cities in Azeroth without dismounting.Even more interesting than the change itself, though, is the thinking behind it -- apparently Blizzard is still tweaking where mounts can and can't go. And though it's a small complaint, this has always been an area that's been a little confusing -- why were mounts fine to use in Ironforge but not in Booty Bay? Why weren't ships ever considered "outdoors," but the crates on them are?
At any rate, if Booty Bay stays changed through the updates on the live realms for 3.0, it'll be clear Blizzard is still tangling with their strange definition of "outdoors," and the rules on where mounts can and can't go, even in old Azeroth.

I remember when the entrance to the City of Lordaeron and all of the Undercity was a no-mount zone. Then they patched it so only the above-ground area was mountable. Took Blizzard a while until they made it mountable in there lol.

booty bay is a town, not a city :P

Thank you! I was just there today wishing they'd do this for Wrath :P

About bloody time, always hated when i missed the boat because i couldn't mount :>

Agreed. Any change that keeps you from being stuck in the worst-zone-in-the-game-by-far for a few moments longer is a welcome change.
Best part about the new recruit-a-friend leveling bonus? You can level a character to 70 without going to Stranglethorn Vale. Ever.

it's funny, because i think STV is a beautiful zone... well-realized, full of interesting and excellent quests.
too bad i get ganked every 15 seconds.
STV taught me there was a resurrection timer. then i never went back except at 70, to help low-level friends escape from gankers.

But...
I like Stranglethorn :(

Totally agree. I fail to see why its taken so long to allow mounts in BB. Its a complete time waster.
Hopefully this will make release.

I have not been to Booty Bay in the beta of WotLK... However, I was unable to mount in Undercity. Hoping they change UC back to being mountable.
I realize that UC was originally a place where you could not mount... but when the "fixed" it, it was a welcome change.
There is also a nice speed buff to death knights when they are running around in there starting area (in the floating citadel).

Unless they've fixed it today, current you can't mount in the Azeroth Capital cities on the beta. However, you may ride into town mounted already. I'm assuming it's a bug and hope they fix it soon. Travel forms also aren't working.

This is probably a bug. There are places thoughout the game where you can mount up that you shouldn't (such as Hellfire Ramparts) and places that you can't mount up that you should (such as Stormwind) since this build of beta released on Friday.

This annoyed me. Just that it's an outdoor city, kinda large, that was annoying that it dismounted you whenever you were running around doing stuff.
Another one of my pet peeves which they recently changed which was welcomed, was how if you went to any other rise of Thunder Bluff they would dismount you when you entered the hut.
William Aug 12th 2008 3:21PM
I was wondering when they fixed that. I thought maybe my level 60 mount was fast enough that it didn't have time to register that you were mounted, and by the time it caught up i was already out of the hut. Didn't bother testing it out cuz frankly i didn't wanna waste the time. I was just glad not to be dismounted while running...

Down in the city itself I never found the inability to mount to be a problem, but the little platform right outside the entrance cave has annoyed me to no end.

Let us know when they open up all zones for flying mounts.
Don't really care if I can or can't ride a walking mount in a city... Do care about not being able to use my epic flyer in all zones.

Sadly, it's not all about what one person thinks tbh, and I think other people agree.... just look at whats happening to your post lol.
Bunkai Aug 12th 2008 8:49PM
Yeah... for 5kg+, I'd like to be able to use my epic flyer as the ONLY mount I need no matter where I am. I'd even be a little bit happier if we could just mount them as riding mounts in Azeroth, even if we can't fly with them.
Bring flight to Azeroth!

I always thought it was a pvp issue that you could mount in booty bay. i know now that might not make much sense, but back in the days booty bay,gad and everlook were brutal to be in cause of the gankers and their exploits
Hoggersbud Aug 12th 2008 3:13PM
In other news, taxes in Booty Bay went up a considerable amount. Baron Revilgaz said the funds were being utilized for increased costs for dock repair and cleanup.
An explanation for this has yet to be released.

Change BRD to make it mountable until you get to the chain to go up or down. Such a long run from the Burning Steppes side to the chain. I don't understand why it's not mountable.
