Forticia of Dragonblight does not care for battlegrounds, but was tempted by the Spirit of Competition event to give it a go. She discovered her own secret to finding a little enjoyment in PvP: "Don't look at your health bar." She realized that death isn't permanent and that sometime you just need to jump in do what needs to be done. Other posters joined in with more suggestions:
- Palpatina of Uldum, "Play smart (i.e. don't let your team down) but don't worry too much about whether you're winning or losing. Enjoy outsmarting and outlasting your enemies. Have fun."
- Abracapocus of Whisperwind, "I'm frankly amazed at how when I run into a group of Alliance and hit Ice Block, LOTS sit there trying to hit me even though I'm invulnerable"
- Nevermore of Malfurion, "The secret to enjoying BGs is winning. Sorry, but that's all that does it for me."
- Kalerender of Thaurissan, "I like to go in, annoy pvp whingers who sook because I'm wearing T6 and not pvp gear, and then 2-3 shot people as a super-duper glass cannon."
I love the battlegrounds, but I understand that not everyone does. I get frustrated when players refuse to work as a team. I enjoy the battleground most when grouped with my buddies so that we can work together toward a given objective. I disagree that winning is everything, but it is a lot of fun. I find it a great way to take out frustration.
Have you gotten into the Spirit of Competition?

My problem is that battleground (and especially Arenas) are not suited for PvE or casual players. It's not particularly enjoyable to jump in a battleground or two when the mood strikes you only to be torn apart by dedicated PvP players.
The other problem is that some battlegrounds last too long. There have been times I've been in WSG or AV for nearly an hour. I only did this to pass the time while my friends are getting online; instead now they are waiting for me to get out (I hate quitting a BG before it's officially over).
In short I avoid BGs as much as possible. PvE and PvP do not mix well in my opinion and I wish they were more separate in WoW.

I have to agree with you on the inaccessibility of PvP these days to casual raiders. Its hard to have fun when you're at 150 resil and 9k hp in a battleground filled with gladiators.
I have really started having fun in them recently by forcing a small amount of teamwork. I tend to find a decked-out player on horde side before the bg begins and try to stick with them. Giving a single good PvPer some help can make a small team that can really accomplish things, especially (but not only!) if you happen to be a healer. Good players will notice, too, and it can turn into a good bg for both of you.

Basically if you have good gear you can solo people, if you have crap gear you need to stick with others. However its the people with low gear and less experience that don't realise the important of sticking with others!

yeah i pretty much hate pvping on my mage, its too late in the game to be any good and the only reason i even did any BGs recently was to get the gold medal pet. I love pets. But the worst is when the team decides they arent going to win before the match even starts and they sit there and dance and then ridicule you for trying. Also i was standing at Stables in AB last night defending with my brand new lvl70 mage alt, deciding to defent the furthest possible area because i was so undergeared, and this guy next to me yells out OMG are you serious this guy is wearing an Imbued Netherweave Robe with +def enchant on it. I had been leveling my enchanting and just used my own gear to skill up on. bunch of Elitist nerds..

I love it when, in AB, that theres a giant battle of 7-10 ppl just fighting not getting anything and it feela like a classic Horde-Ally battle.

As a mage, if those "stupid" people stopped attacking my ice for a second, I'd break it early and blink the hell away, nova+barrier and there's a chance I'll live.
It's the ones who waste mana or combo points who are a bit dim, but I think they want to get lucky and kill you the second your ice drops to beat everyone else to the KB.

My secret to enjoying battlegrounds -- if I'm not going into one with a premade -- is to turn OFF the inanity that is BG chat. This spares me the annoyance of all the usual whining from the inevitable bitchy gear snobs, loudmouthed trolls, sore losers, wanna-be BG generals and the discouraging "let's just lose fast and get it over with" people.
With all the noise shut off, I can then concentrate so much better on doing the best I can to help my side succeed instead of feeling that I want to stab my factionmates in their eyes repeatedly with a sharp stick.
And yes, some good, fast music and booze always helps BG play, too. Oh yes.

(And booze and music can help solve your BG Chat problems too, ReflectedSky... although sometimes the BG Chat is so annoying you'll need a helluva lotta more booze...)

Why is the mage you quoted so stupid. People sit there and swing becuase they're waiting for block to wear off. You might break it early to get away. It has to end sometime.
Its just stupid knowing there's a retard out there who beats one off everytime thinking "omgally r so stupid to hit me in iceblock lolol."

I was wondering the same thing. As a rogue, there have been many times where ive been attacking a mage, who then ice blocks, leaving me with some combo points still on him. Why would i go attack someone else, not only losing cp, but leaving the mage free to go? Im gonna wait till the second ib runs out and pop eviscerate where hell most likely die (cuz mages pop ib when low on health)
Infact ive always wondered what use iceblock is in Pvp because i have never seen it do anything for a mage save delay his imminent death by like 10 seconds.

For realz.. u realize how many ppl continue to use mana trying to kill the "blocked" person. I get the same thing win i pally bubble. I laugh at the ppl who are auto swinging at me.. or... in most cases are actually trying to hurt me with special attacks.. u have no idea how many huntards, dumb rogues and warriors continue to stun me while im bubbled. Im assuming Tomatoes that you are one of these ppl, wasting mana, rage, focus on trying to get one HK. i ask.. whos stupid now?

Um, no.
Don't waste GCDs and cast time on a mage in ice block. Keep an eye on him and take him out when he comes out.
I frequently see the same thing-- either side (horde or alli) stand around the guy in the ice block, while a priest stands next to him healing him. Here's a tip: KILL THE PRIEST.

As a mage, I would have to agree that if you care about winning BGs more than winning HKs, getting the attention of 5+ players all wasting 5 seconds or more while they wait hoping to kill you is an effective strategy. Particularly as dying in BG is very mana-efficient.
Of course the best time to do this is when you need to distract the opposing team, i.e.
Your flag carrier is running past them.
A member of your team is tapping an AB/AV flag.
Now you would be frankly amazed at how many people will abandon the BG objective just to finish you off.
Similarly, in WSG if our flag carrier is running west field, I will often run through the enemy team with a couple of arcane explosions to get their attention, flee into east field then iceblock. They usually follow me and not the FC... Yeah I die - but the FC gets a clear run and I get a smile.
