Hunters get some major love in the Wrath Beta
It's been a busy day on the Hunter Beta boards, with Koraa delivering tidbit after tidbit of great news for Hunters. Here's the breakdown:
- Deterrence and Master's Call will become baseline.
- Animal Handler will be getting an overhaul.
- Serpent Sting will get a mana cost reduction and a coefficient buff with the aim of making it worth casting in your basic shot rotation.
- Silencing Shot will become a proper interrupt for PvE usage, and Trueshot Aura will go raid wide.
- Hunters will be getting a big push with lots of changes in the beta build after next.
These are definitely welcome changes. In PvP, being able to stand up to focus fire or get back to range have long been weaknesses of the class. Having a non-talent way to break out of snares or add a bit of extra defense attacks will go a long way to making a bit tougher. It's not trainable Scatter Shot or pet resilience, exactly, but it's nearly as good as either, and may be better for us in the long run than the former option. Finally, we'll have a dependable way to get away from Hamstring or Crippling Poison that does not involve Beastmastery or being a Dwarf.
Animal Handler has been looking more and more lackluster lately in the face of other mount speed talents that provide more speed and better benefits, especially now that pets will share our hit percentage, so hopefully this revamp makes it desirable again. Similarly, the state of Silencing Shot and its inability to interrupt silence-immune mobs has long been a sticking point with PvE-focused Marksmanship Hunters. So so far, all of the announced changes are definitely welcome news that should hopefully be nothing but useful to Hunters.
We'll definitely be looking forward to this build after next to see the final state of Animal Handler, whether Serpent Sting will be useful for damage purposes again, and whatever other changes -- such as the promised counters to LOS -- Blizzard tests out.

And all hunters shall rule the world with their simultaneous evasion/clos. Sigh, think this will make more people roll hunters.

Give me a B (B!)
Give me an L (L!)
Give me an I (I!)
Give me an N (N!)
Give me a K (K!)
What does that spell?
(The solution to all hunter pvp problems!)

Roll a mage if you want to blink.
I play the Hunter class on a relatively high plan and I have always been against a Blink-like ability. If we should have anything then it should be a knockback-ability. But the steps that Blizzard has made with making Deterrence and Master's Call is the right decision.

I still wanna know if people will be able to tame more complacent animals. Zevrahs, talbuks, stags, etc. Yes, I'm such a girl, but I would love to have one. :X
Zakk Aug 13th 2008 9:47PM
Talbuks would be very manly pets. Something about throwing sharp-pointies to the wind in favor of a raw bash from the tough skull/horns of a Talbuk just comes across as kick ass. I very want Talbuk pets.
As a mage... Aug 13th 2008 8:30PM
As a mage I'm worried about going against BM hunters with deterrence. Nearly 30 seconds of relative immunity to my snares, 10 of which are made up of CLoS like resists? Combine it with fd for interrupting my spells and master's call removing novas and I'm hoping there's something I can do against hunters other than just run.

"(Bring back deadzone already!)"
This has got to be one of the most ignorant things i've ever read. We used to be the only class that would lose our attacking effectiveness simply by someone getting in our face. If anything, we should be able to shoot point blank (and no, not for added damage) so we're not completely helpless when someone gets in our face. Mages can still cast crap like Arcane Explosion to fight back (hell, most don't even use it as a defensive move, they jump into the think of battle (VERY uncloth wearing class like) and spam it to kill tons of people before being downed) Another cheap thing is how we have ONE shot (arcane) that can be cast while moving, which explains a part of why we suck in arena representation so bad. I wish I could run and spam a move at the same time (Like Arcane Explosion, and Moonfire Spam bull$hit)

He was joking... I think.
Unmei Aug 14th 2008 9:57AM
as a mage that has beaten a good number of BM hunters in a day (some are just better skilled then most). The answer is this.
Mana Shield.
Run at them.
Blink.
Turn around
Unleash hell upon them. Aoe, spell cast. Sheep.
By the time they turn around to shoot you or hit you you've already knocked out a good 20% or more on their life.

It's about time. Silencing Shot should have been an interrupt since implementation. Hopefully things like Aspects and Tracking and a few others will move off the global cooldown, too.

The way things are going, my Hunter could very well be my new main, come wrath...

First time I read the title I SWEAR it said ," Major hunter LORE love."
Second time visiting the site since then I read it correctly lol.
cds Aug 13th 2008 10:23PM
Well atleast hunters got some nice love.
To add my QQ as it were though as a warlock so far I am disappointed in that we appear to have gotten little pve pet love in comparison to the hunters :(
STereo Aug 13th 2008 10:53PM
finally...
Vladius Aug 13th 2008 11:11PM
Hunters are fine. It's the idiots pushing for all the OP changed.
Xino Aug 13th 2008 11:27PM
If hunters are "fine" then I guess every class in the game is also "fine"
Marc Aug 14th 2008 7:44AM
Check arena statistics, fool.
