I'm not sure whether I'll be happy if they don't make Ashbringer acquirable in-game. (Same with Frostmourne, really.) On the one hand, items of LEGENDARY POWAH like this really seem like they're just teasing unless you can actually pick them up. On the other hand, there can be no sadder experience in WoW than replacing the Ashbringer with a blue when you're about level 87, come the next expansion pack.
Hmm... Maybe it could fit into the Lich King encounter. That would be pretty cool, a variation on Kael'thas's weapons... Tirion Fordring shows up, gets axed by the Lich King, and cries out for you to take the blade in his stead? Maybe you wouldn't get to keep it, but at least you (or your favorite death knight/paladin/warrior/whoever) could use it once.
Be interesting to see how the final implementation of the Ashbringer goes...

I'm still mad that Gorehowl was a lame kara epic, and they never even explained how it got there... i mean seriously the weapon that took down Mannoroth and Cenarius?
